Funds in Court [FIC] is a discrete, self-funded, administrative division of the Supreme Court of Victoria.
FIC assists the Senior Master, who is an Associate Judge of the Court, in administering and investing funds in Court for people who are under a legal disability. A person is under a legal disability if he or she is under 18 years old, or has an intellectual or physical disability, or both.
Funds may be awarded by the County Court, Magistrates' Court or the Victims of Crime Assistance Tribunal (VOCAT). People who have money administered by the Senior Master are referred to as "clients" of the Court.
About the Role
Offered on a full-time ongoing basis in Melbourne CBD, the Legal Services Manager is accountable for the prudent and efficient management of the Legal Services team and services arising from the day-to-day provision of legal and related services to the Judiciary and for and on behalf of persons under disability. The position is responsible for integrating and leading a range of disciplines, including complex professional/technical services and must balance and negotiate outcomes desired and determined by the Judiciary when considering and progressing legal issues.
The key accountabilities of the Legal Services Manager role at Funds in Court include, but not limited to:
- Providing professional leadership, management and development to an integrated team of legal professionals and administrative officers
- Expertly managing the provision of authoritative, specialist advice and professional assistance to the judicial officers by the Legal Services team as well as addressing other significant matters that impact the judiciary in the performance of their duties
- As key member of the Leadership Team, providing specialist advice and input to senior management to assist in the development of FIC strategy and policy and prepare appropriate monthly reporting for the Senior Master, Judicial Registrar and Leadership Team
About You
- Tertiary qualification in law and admission to practice
- Demonstrated experience and ability to lead and manage a team to ensure the efficient dispatch of legal and other responsibilities
- A sound understanding of State and Commonwealth legal obligations and supporting legislation
- Relevant experience in Trust law and Fund Management will be highly regarded.
