The Role

As the Structures Maintenance Engineer, you are integral to the success of V/Line’s Network Development, Assets and Maintenance Group.

As a Structures Maintenance Engineer, you will provide ongoing engineering and management support to the Structures Maintenance teams. Your primary objective will be to ensure the effective delivery of civil structures maintenance programs, adhering to V/Line's Project Governance and Management procedures. You will also contribute to the development and implementation of asset management strategies for civil structures, including lifecycle planning and risk assessment.

Key accountabilities include:

Engineering and Technical Support:

Providing engineering and technical guidance to Civil Maintenance Supervisors.

Offering field-based technical support to ensure adherence to engineering inspection standards.

Investigating asset failures and structural defects and implementing corrective action plans.

Collaboration and Coordination

Collaborating with stakeholders to plan and expedite works, including track possessions.

Leading coordination with Major Planned Maintenance and State Projects teams.

Participating in operational/work planning meetings.

Asset Management and Monitoring

Monitoring the health of vital railway structures through inspections and data analysis

Managing records of structural asset information, ensuring data integrity.

Identifying and evaluate new technologies and maintenance techniques.

Risk and Safety Management

Conducting risk assessments and safety incident investigations related to structural assets.

Reviewing inspection reports and Root Cause Analyses (RCAs) to manage identified issues.

Ensuring compliance with relevant legislation, industry standards, and V/Line policies.

Budget and Cost Management

Contributing to budget development and cost estimates for maintenance programs.

Planning and overseeing maintenance and repair of structures, managing external contractors.

Training and Continuous Improvement

Implementing training and competency frameworks for Civil maintainers and inspectors.

Contributing to continuous improvement by identifying and implementing enhancements to maintenance processes and procedures

About You

Our ideal candidate will possess the following:

Minimum 5 years of experience in maintenance and repair of structures within rail, transportation, or heavy civil infrastructure.

Strong understanding of structural design principles, Australian structural design standards and codes, and industry best practices

Understanding of construction materials such as steel, concrete, timber, and masonry.

Proficiency in structural analysis software (e.g., AutoCAD).

Experience with inspection and assessment techniques for railway structures.

Tertiary qualifications in Civil Engineering or Structural Engineering
