The Northern Adelaide Children and Family Mental Health Service operates from our Salisbury hub, providing mental health and wellbeing supports to families and their children (aged 11 and under), including perinatal services.

We offer a safe, welcoming, and inclusive environment and provide support to all families including Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander People, CALD and LGBTIQ+ communities. We are looking for a Mental Health Clinician to join our team. This role is 0.7 FTE equivalent to 26.5 hours per week.

The salary for this role is ranges between $49.28 - $51.51 per hour plus superannuation, depending on the successful applicant’s skills, knowledge and experience. You will also be eligible for salary packaging benefits to increase your take-home pay.

Your Opportunity

You will have prior experience in the Human Services field and are looking for a challenging and engaging role where you can support families and children with severe and complex mental health concerns. You will provide and deliver high-quality services while engaging with Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander families and their communities.

When appropriate, you will focus on strengthening individual clients on their cultural identity journey. Additionally, as a team, we will source and share culturally safe strategies, resources, and information to aid in the client's recovery and wellbeing. When necessary, you will make culturally appropriate referrals for families to strengthen their social and emotional wellbeing.

Your skills and attributes will include:

  • This is an identified position and you must be of Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander background
  • You will need to hold a suitable bachelor’s degree in Social Work, Psychology, Occupational Therapy or Nursing.
  • A minimum of one year in a similar role post-placement experience is required. This experience must include providing counselling or case management services outside of your placement.
  • Proficiency in Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT), Dialectical Behaviour Therapy (DBT), and Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT) is essential.
  • Experience working with parents and children of culturally diverse groups, Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander, CALD and LGBTIQ+ communities.
  • Understanding of grief and loss and ability to counsel individually and group sessions.
  • A background in using Art Therapy and Play Therapy to support emotional regulation and resilience-building in children.
  • Being a team player – we are a small, supportive team and we all pitch it to get the job done.
  • Strong communication skills – written and verbal – you’ll be working with families and young children so the ability to relate is essential.
  • Ability to self-care and self-regulate during times of stress and high pressure.
  • Training in “Incredible Years” and/or “Circle of Security” would be beneficial.

There is some outreach work in this role, so you will also need a current Australian Drivers Licence. And because you’ll be working with children, a current Working with Children Check is required.
