The Role

We are seeking a passionate Indigenous Engagement Coordinator to join our team on a 12-month fixed-term contract, beginning in Term 3, 2025.

This is a flexible and adaptive role, open to applicants of all experience levels. Whether you’re just starting out or have extensive experience in Indigenous education or community work, we want to hear from you. The role will be shaped to suit your unique strengths and background, and this will be reflected in the salary and responsibilities.

The position plays a vital role in supporting Indigenous students and their families, strengthening cultural awareness across the College, and building meaningful relationships with local communities and organisations.

Key Responsibilities (may vary depending on experience):

Provide holistic educational and wellbeing support for Indigenous students, including in-class assistance.

Develop and deliver cultural awareness programs for staff and students.

Coordinate and grow the Indigenous Leadership Program for SEDA students.

Facilitate mentoring opportunities, leadership camps, and cultural events such as NAIDOC Week.

Engage with students, families, and community stakeholders to enhance engagement, retention, and student pathways.

Support the implementation and ongoing development of the College’s Reconciliation Action Plan (RAP).

Liaise with external organisations to expand opportunities and supports for Indigenous students.

Key Selection Criteria:

✔ Ability to build strong, respectful relationships with Indigenous students, families, and community organisations.
✔ Experience or interest in Indigenous education, mentoring, youth work, or community engagement.
✔ Excellent communication, collaboration, and interpersonal skills.
✔ Capacity to plan, implement, and evaluate programs to support student wellbeing and success.
✔ Strong organisational and time management skills.
✔ A background in education, youth work, or community engagement is valued but not essential.

Note: We welcome applications from candidates with a variety of lived and professional experiences. Training and mentoring will be provided where appropriate.

Qualifications & Requirements:

• Current Driver’s License
• Valid Working with Children Check (or ability to obtain one)
First Aid Certificate (desirable)
Cultural Awareness Training (desirable)
