Position objectives
This position has responsibility for leading construction and maintenance works within the municipality and in accordance with the directions given by the Team Leader.
Key responsibility areas
Assist the Team Leader to deliver the annual infrastructure works program being responsive to community needs and at high quality within budget.
Provide instruction and supervision in the day-to-day operations of the crew ensuring the work is undertaken in accordance with safe working practices, conduct regular worksite audits .
Oversee the work of the crew specifically formed for individual projects, paying particular attention to on-the-job training, personnel issues and quality control.
Complete, and ensure other employees complete, documentation, such as daily activity sheets, safe work statements (SWMS)
React immediately to overcome problems observed throughout the Shire either by undertaking minor maintenance or making a report to the Team Leader.
Assist the Team Leader Works to provide on-the-job skills and development.
Perform, as directed, other duties that are within the limits of the incumbents’ skill, competence and training.
Complete required job tracker sheets, assigned work orders and all gravel documentation sheets regularly and within timeframes
Ensure the crew are completing timesheets correctly with job numbers and plant. Provide the crew with access to required job numbers, providing Team Leader the required job numbers that have to be in the system
Maintain, and provide supervision for the regular maintenance of plant, ensuring that daily plant checklists are complete and safe operation of equipment is conducted and overall upkeep of plant is maintained to the highest possible standard. This includes the reporting problems to the Mechanical Workshop
Qualifications and experience
- Bitumen/Asphalt
- Road Drainage Maintenance/Construction
- Trench Maintenance/Construction
- A current Victorian Medium Rigid driver’s license.
- Knowledge and skills gained through on-the-job training including:
- Road Construction Techniques:-
- Road Furniture Installation
- Chainsaw Safety
- Road Signing & Safety
- Chemical Users Certificate
- Level 1 or Level 2 Industrial First Aid Certificate
- Construction White Card
Selection criteria
- A current Victorian Medium Rigid driver’s license
- Substantial knowledge and skills in road construction and safe machinery operation gained through on-the-job training.
- Demonstrated ability to optimise staff performance and an ability to encourage staff to work in a team environment.
- Demonstrated ability to undertake routine maintenance and running repairs on plant and equipment.
- Ability to be able to communicate effectively with members of the public and staff.
