The Senior Research Scientist works within the Field Crops Pathology team to conduct high quality research into the integrated disease management of field crops, particularly cereals. The team is well regarded for the communication of the scientific results to the scientific community, growers, and their advisors. The Senior Research Scientist will develop, conduct, manage and lead research into the control of diseases of field crops at the Horsham SmartFarm.

The Senior Research Scientist will provide leadership of industry funded projects including the development and reporting of funding submissions, preparation of scientific reports and publications, and communication to internal and external stakeholders. The Senior Research Scientist will work within a larger field crop pathology team, will be self-managing and will have to establish and maintain strong links with national and international collaborators. The position will provide leadership, supervision and training to technical and scientific staff and post graduate students

The successful applicant will work effectively as a member of a team, enjoy flexible working arrangements and undertake a wide variety of work across the division, involving a combination of laboratory, office, glasshouse and field work. There will be a requirement to travel for a range of events including project meetings, presentations and conferences.

Specialist/Technical Expertise/Qualifications

  1. A PhD with a focus on plant disease or related field (mandatory)
  2. Current Driver License
  3. Extensive experience in Research and innovation in field crop disease management and detailed understanding of the key production issues faced by the field crops sector
  4. Demonstrated experience in the ability to set research priorities, develop funding submissions with associated budgets, and report on project outcomes.
  5. Demonstrated experience in the development, design and implementation of field and glasshouse experiments to develop new knowledge and control strategies for diseases of field crops, with an emphasis on field-based research.
  6. Demonstrated record of research communication (including peer-reviewed publications) at a national and international level as well as at grower and industry meetings.

This is a fixed term position available for a period of 24 months. The work location for this position is Horsham with hybrid work arrangements available.
