Are you passionate about promoting a safe and healthy work environment? Moira Shire Council is seeking an enthusiastic and knowledgeable Occupational Health and Safety (OHS) Advisor to join our team. This is a fantastic opportunity to play a vital role in enhancing the safety culture within our Council and ensuring compliance with OHS legislation.
Key Responsibilities:
- Expert Guidance: Provide expert advice on best practices to ensure compliance with the Occupational Health & Safety Act 2004, relevant regulations, and the Council's OHS Procedure Manual.
- OHS Management: Maintain an effective OHS schedule and workplan that align with Council policies, procedures, and documentation.
- Workplace Audits: Conduct thorough workplace audits and inspections, ensuring that legislative requirements are met while guiding teams in implementing necessary actions.
- Incident Reporting: Oversee Council's OHS system, managing and recording all incident reports and relevant information, while producing timely reports as required.
- Risk Management: Assist in developing and maintaining an OHS Risk Register through collaboration with various departments.
- Committee Support: Support the Council’s Occupational Health & Safety Committee by offering essential OHS advice and guidance.
- Training and Education: Identify organizational training needs and systematically educate employees, distributing the latest OHS training materials, safety alerts, and utilizing online technologies.
- Professional Communication: Prepare high-quality correspondence and maintain written records, ensuring prompt responses and follow-ups to all communications.
- Public Representation: Maintain a professional image of the Council and represent it at pertinent OHS forums.
- Project Management: Steer OHS projects ensuring compliance with the OHS Act 2004, OHS Regulations 2017, Codes of Practice, and industry best practices.

Essential qualifications and experience
- Diploma or Certificate IV in Occupational Health and Safety with minimum 2 years experience in an OHS advisory role.
- Highly developed and proven computer skills including a sound knowledge of Microsoft software (Word and Excel) and other programs.
- Sound knowledge and demonstrable understanding and experience of Occupational Health Safety and Risk Management Processes.
- Ability to undertake analysis research and prepare objective reports.
- Relevant experience within a similar role preferably in a local government role setting.
- High level of computer skills and ability to maintain computer bases.
- Sound level of interpersonal skills to gain cooperation with employees and clients about health safety and risk management processes.
- Proven research skills and experience.
- Excellent written and oral communication skills.
- Proven experience in the management of large electronic documents.
- A current drivers licence.
Desirable qualifications and experience
- Sound knowledge of Local Government or other risk management processes.
- Minimum of two years employment experience in administrative or clerical fields.
