Our NSW operations manager is seeking a qualified carpenter / maintenance technician to help with the delivery of general building repairs contracts within education sector, justice & immigration, as well as strata.
About the role
We are looking for a skilled carpenter / maintenance technician based in Newscastle, NSW. You will independently carry out general building maintenance and repairs ensuring that works are completed in a compliant and timely manner. You are able to coordinate contractors, material orders and carry out quotes. You ideally have a qualification in carpentry or another relevant trade. Own tools and transport are ideal, but can also be provided by us. Work, health & safety and accurate job documentation is important to our government clients, therefore you are not shy to use modern technology to keep our job systems up to date. You are open minded, self-motivated, enjoy working and delivering a high standard of work. You have sound knowledge of best practices and other trades. You’re not shy to turn a hand to lay some tiles or pick up a paint brush and you’re looking for a long term opportunity with us.
Job Tasks and Responsibilities:
Communicate daily with operations manager and scheduling team to prioritise pending works.
Undertake urgent, routine and ad-hoc maintenance, repairs, inspections on the client’s premises and equipment.
Coordinate, supervise and control trades and sub-contractors including performance monitoring
Liaise closely with key stakeholders to ensure they are aware of any disruption to services by any works servicing undertaken.
Ensure that work site instructions are followed including inductions, sign in / out processes, SWMS, permit to work procedures, etc.
Ensure effective Key Performance Indicators are managed effectively including response times, safety, compliance, and financial performance of all job numbers assigned to you.
Record all labour and materials daily on job management software.
Record all works on service dockets and various client software.
Ability to draft simple quotes.
Buy materials and equipment and make repair or maintenance plan based on information derived from inspection.
Troubleshoot general problems.
Adhere to all WHS, QMS & EMS requirements.
Maintain all building codes, installation requirements and relevant legislation
Other tasks as directed by the Supervisor.
Skills and experience
Relevant trade qualification, e.g. Cert III in Carpentry, Cert IV in Building & Construction
Ability to work cooperatively with other trades
Able to work independently and unsupervised
Excellent time management skills
Basic to advanced technology skills; being willing to learn various job management tools as well as client software
Have a positive attitude to work
Able to work in a tight-knit team
Drivers licence and white card
Own tools and transport could be an advantage
You possess, or would be successful in obtaining a Working with Children Check and AFP Check
Fully vaccinated
Working at heights or other tickets beneficial but not required
