Mars Recruitment is partnering with a well-established organisation currently undergoing an exciting phase of transformation. They are seeking a Senior Payroll Officer / Team Lead to join their fast-paced and high-performing payroll team.

The Role

As the Senior Payroll Officer / Team Lead, you'll drive the transactional delivery of payroll across multiple entities. This isn't your standard, single-entity payroll role - it's complex, dynamic, and involves multiple employment types, awards, and over 650 pay runs annually.

You'll take the lead on weekly planning, task allocation, payroll processing, and quality assurance. Key Responsibilities:

• Oversee a team of 5 Payroll Officers within a transactional payroll environment
• Set up and manage weekly pay runs, including workflow planning and deadline management
• Act as the final checker for payroll accuracy, calculations, and exceptions
• Handle complex payroll matters such as redundancies, long service leave, taxation, and employee complaints
• Drive quality, consistency, and service excellence across the payroll function
• Support continuous improvement initiatives and standardisation of processes
• Contribute to year-end processes, including audit requirements

What We're Looking For:

• Extensive end-to-end payroll experience across multiple entities
• Confidence managing high-volume and complex payroll operations
• Leadership experience - or readiness to step into a leadership role
• Strong understanding of payroll transactions, awards, and entitlements
• High attention to detail and a strong sense of accountability
• Proactive, organised, and thrives in a fast-paced, changing environment
• Excellent communication skills - both written and verbal - with the ability to manage escalations effectively
