The Role
The position supports the implementation and delivery of continuous shipbuilding and will be an integral part of the Technical area within NCB with the opportunity to support the design and analysis of hull and external structures in relation to welding, protective coatings, insulation and pressure equipment.
The key responsibilities for the Hull Group Technical Specialist are:
- Verification of technical compliance in an assurance role. of sub assembly, assembly, unit and block fabrication
- Provide specialist advice during implementation and production testing
- Contribute to the design change approval process
- Establish strategies to review specifications, plans, procedures and design documents in relation to shipbuilding activities
- Undertake specialist reviews of engineering reports
- Provide assurance services on hull and external systems requirements during construction and testing
About our Team
The Waterfront and Continuous Naval Shipbuilding and Sustainment (W&CNSS) Division is responsible for coordinating the uplift of the sovereign industrial base and management of Defence’s presence in principal shipyards. The W&CNSS Division is comprised of Continuous naval shipbuilding and sustainment (CNNS) and Naval Construction Branches SA & WA (NCB)
The CNNS Branch coordinates the development of the CNSS Key Enablers (industry, workforce, infrastructure, security and innovation) and administratively supports DEPSEC NSS in their role as the Capability Manager for CNSS.
The Naval Construction Branches (SA & WA) provide effective governance, project assurance and performance oversight at Osborne Naval Shipyard in South Australia and Henderson Shipyard in Western Australia. The Division also maintains a minor presence at Port Macquarie in New South Wales to provide oversight on the construction of the Young Endeavour replacement.
