Live and work on one of Queensland's western parks!
Based on-park near Winton, the Ranger in Charge leads and coordinates the planning and delivery of operational work programs within the Bladensburg Work Unit, which includes Bladensburg National Park, Combo Waterhole Conservation Park and Lark Quarry Conservation Park. The position directly supervises a OO3 Ranger and works collaboratively with park neighbours, First Nations partners, researchers and key stakeholders to achieve park management objectives and conservation outcomes.
As Ranger in Charge, Bladensburg you will:
- Manage day-to-day operations of the work unit.
- Undertake asset, visitor, fire and pest management activities.
- Develop and implement operational plans consistent with business plans, strategies, policies and procedures.
- Manage and supervise staff, contractors and volunteers including the management of performance issues.
- Collaborate with colleagues, experts and researchers with respect to species management.
- Grow your and your team's skills and capabilities.
- Manage the work unit budget and expenditure.
- Undertake projects to achieve set operational and conservation objectives.
- Ensure the safety and wellbeing of employees, contractors, volunteers and visitors.
- Respond to critical incidents.
- Implement and enforce legislation administered by the Department.
- Establish partnerships that assist operations and achieve objectives and outcomes of the regional business plan.
- Work with and learn from First Nations partners to jointly achieve stronger outcomes for Country and people
- Communicate regularly with stakeholders and visitors to create a greater understanding and appreciation of the Department and its role.
- Negotiate with neighbours and other stakeholders to resolve local land management issues.
- Perform other assigned duties at the classification level within your competence and training.
A three-bedroom residence suitable for a small family or couple is provided at the Bladensburg ranger base.
To succeed in this role, you'll need four things in abundance:
- Confidence and the practical skills required to work and live in regional and isolated settings.
- Field skills gained as a ranger or from a similar conservation or land management background.
- An appetite for and ability to solve complex problems using initiative, collaboration and tenacity.
- the ability to build and sustain genuine and meaningful relationships with those you work and interact with.
