Summary of the role

This role will be one of our Subject Matter Experts in the LSbp Engineering Centre of Excellence as MCC SCADAs engineer.

The successful candidate will join a diverse and dynamic team who support the existing global solar portfolio, as well as support growth by performing technical and commercial assessment of MCC-SCADA systems for PV Assets, including HV Substations, BEES and wind, at any project stage: development, design, construction and commissioning, as well as in operation stage upon request.

Close coordination with LSbp departments: Procurement, Commercial Engineering, Construction, Asset Services, Grid, IT, Digitalization, Quality and Innovation teams are key tasks for the Global role and specifically in Australia.

The successful candidate will join the ECE-MCC-SCADAs department whose responsible will coordinate him/her to deliver requests from internal stakeholders.

The role shall be based on Australia willing to work on other regions worldwide remotely or physically at the energy plants, factories, hence travel availability is required.

Duties and responsibilities

Engineering Support

  • Support the MCC-SCADAs responsible to develop and maintain Functional Technical Specifications, Standards, Certifications, Digital files, and Data Sheets for SCADA systems, including scope of supply, technical and QA/QC requirements, design requirements (control, operation and monitoring capabilities), H&S guidelines, etc.
  • Support the MCC-SCADAs responsible to scouting renewable market to evaluate best technologies, manufacturers and products suitability for LSbp’s fleet of projects, as well as reliability, product performance, technical support (service) during commissioning and operation stages, troubleshooting, etc.
  • Support the MCC-SCADAs responsible to review of architectural design, project requirements compliance, LSbp’s data acquisition requirements, as well as electrical designs for SCADA systems,
  • Support the MCC-SCADAs responsible to ensure OT cybersecurity compliance in the projects,
  • Participate in any MCC-SCADAs troubleshooting in operating projects,
  • Maintain project and department documentation in LSbp’s document control system,
  • Development of a positive interface with key MCC-SCADAs manufacturers.

Procurement and Business Support

  • Support the MCC-SCADAs responsible to release periodic MCC-SCADAs suppliers Approved Products List acceptable to LSbp,
  • Support the MCC-SCADAs responsible to monitor supply market’s contractor pool, technology, innovation, risks and cost trends regularly,
  • Support the MCC-SCADAs responsible to Identify supplier development and improvement opportunities in coordination with Procurement, Digitalization and Asset Services teams,
  • Support the MCC-SCADAs responsible to conduct the technical review of SCADA systems in tendering projects or portfolio of projects in alignment with relevant stakeholders like Procurement, Legal, Construction, Grid and Asset Services to ensure best value for LSbp,
  • Support the MCC-SCADAs responsible to work with Procurement department to negotiate supply contracts with vendors,
  • Support the MCC-SCADAs responsible to cooperate with Grid team to properly specify every project particular requirement on grid code compliance
  • Support the MCC-SCADAs responsible to cooperate with Commercial Engineering team to properly specify every project particular requirement on grid code compliance

Construction Support

  • Support the MCC-SCADAs responsible to ensure that MCC-SCADAs systems have been designed, installed, tested and commissioned as per company requirements to meet QSE, Utility and any competent Authority requirements, in close coordination with Commercial Engineering, Construction, Asset Services, Digitalization and IT teams,
  • Support the MCC- SCADAs responsible to Coordinate with IT team’s consultants and subcontractors for network security deliverables, testing, budgets, and system completion,
  • Supervise and witness FAT (Factory Acceptance Test) of MCC-SCADA systems: SF SCADA, BESS SCADA, Substation SCADA and wind SCADA to ensure compliance with normative and project MTS (Minimum Technical Specifications),
  • Supervise and witness iFAT (integration Factory Acceptance Test) of MCC-SCADA systems and the integration with other subsystems as: BESS SCADA, wind SCADA to ensure compliance with normative and project MTS.
  • Supervise and witness Pre-SAT (Preliminary Site Acceptance Test) of MCC-SCADA systems and the integration with other subsystems as: BESS, wind SCADA to ensure compliance with normative and project MTS.
  • Supervise and witness SAT (Site Acceptance Test) of MCC-SCADA systems and the integration with other subsystems as: BESS, wind SCADA to ensure compliance with normative and project MTS.
  • Review package of PAC (Provisional Acceptance Certificate) delivered by the EPC Contractor to ensure compliance with normative and project MTS.
  • Review on site works by working with the OE (Owner´s Engineers) subcontracted company

Asset Services Support

  • Support the Asset Services teams throughout the life of the facility to maintain reliability of the PV Asset on the grid, as well as ongoing support to critical MCC-SCADAs issues and configuration.
  • Support the MCC-SCADAS responsible to during the contract negotiation for the asset management related services.

Key requirements

Education

  • Degree or master’s degree. in Electrical Engineering, Automation Engineering, Computer Science Engineering, Telecommunications or similar.

Knowledge & Experience

  • Working knowledge of the renewables energy industry and projects,
  • Familiarity with and able to stay current on SCADA regulations and standards,
  • Knowledge of AUSTRALIAN MCC standards (from AEMO) such as Comms Failure Guideline (Dec 2020) and NER.
  • At least five years of prior experience.
  • Experience on control and comms testing within the R2-Tests in Australia: Run Back Protection Scheme, Dynamic Ramps, Local limit with temperature deratings as per specific GPS, RUG and EMC of each project,
  • Experience on preparing and supervise Hold points: HP0, HPi (Comms failures tests)
  • Familiarity with grid codes in Australia, UK, Spain, South Africa.
  • Familiarity with Cyber Security good practices
  • Familiarity with QA tests (FAT methodologies, FMEA) for SCADA systems, weather stations, comboxes, PPC
  • Familiarity with the requirements of Asset Management (electrical hazards investigation, retrofit upgrades, technical due diligence),
  • Experience with SCADA software programming, SCADA historians,
  • Experience with SCADA systems:
  • Read SLD diagrams
  • Protection and operational limits
  • Solar PV, BESS, and HV Electrical systems integration to properly operate the Solar Asset in coordination with the Transmission and/or Distribution operator
  • Analogue signal collection and manipulation. Marshalling
  • Experience with PLC/RTU as interface with the substation and NSP. Wago PLCs.
  • Experience with Substation RTU as interface with the TSO. SEL RTAC.
  • Experience in Real Time Control System.
  • Knowledge of communication protocols (Modbus/DNP3/IEC-102/IEC-104)
  • Windows OPC server/client
  • Experience with INGNITION SCADA platform,
  • Historian and local data bases,
  • Experience with Networking:
  • Local network fiber optic design concept: logic and physical rings.
  • Redundant Networks Protocols (PRP, HSR, RSTP, MRP),
  • TCP/IP protocol, basic router and managed ethernet Switches. Experience with Hirschman Cisco, Moxa,
  • Time Synchronization. NTP substation clock,
  • VLANs. Verification of connectivity of end devices. Wireshark tests. Nozomi experience
  • Solar:
  • Experience with standards for PV solar monitoring IEC-61724, PV solar inverters, (string and central), master/slave configuration,
  • Central inverters: SMA, Power Electronics, Ingeteam,
  • String inverters: Huawei Smart logger configuration
  • Experience with Power Plant Controller (PPC) providers:
  • SMA, Power Electronics, Gamesa, Ingeteam, GPM
  • Familiarity with tracking systems,
  • Design and model solar tracker systems with master-slave architectures optimized for precise solar tracking,
  • Implement advanced solar tracking algorithms, including backtracking, to maximize energy capture on complex terrains,
  • Conduct efficiency analysis and optimize system performance based on local and global conditions,
  • Implement and manage advanced communication protocols for solar trackers, such as LoRa, Modbus, and other industry standards.
  • Experience with PV-Hardware
  • Inverter and PPC Configuration and Management:
  • Configure solar inverters to ensure optimal performance and compliance with grid connection standards.
  • Review of PPC (Power Plant Controller) operating modes for efficient grid integration in various countries.
  • Review inverter and PPC parameters to stabilize power output, improve power factor, and minimize losses.
  • Experience with data quality process for reporting process
  • Experience with meteo stations setup and pyranometer verifications. EKO MS-90 diffuse sensors. Campbell scientific dataloggers.
  • Experience with energy meters and data collection. Schneider ION 9xxx, Elspec G44x and Elspec G5, Satec 180
  • Wireless communication for Combiner boxes. Weidmueller wireless cards to communicate comboxes and SF SCADA. Transclinic string monitoring.
  • BESS + Solar Hybrid plants AC coupled. Experience with Optimizers as Habitat.
  • Significant amount of professional experience in technical roles in the industrial MCC-SCADA marketplace or equivalent, preferably in the solar PV, BEESS or/and Wind industry.
