About the program:

AIR6500 is the RAAF’s $3 billion program to develop a joint air battle management system that builds on the capabilities offered by Next Generation sensor and command and control systems. AIR6500 will create a fully networked ‘system of systems’ that synchronises air and missile defence operations in joint and coalition environments, maximising situational awareness and enhancing the speed of decision making across the battlespace.

About the role:

As a Software Engineer within an Agile at Scale environment, you will play a critical role in the development and delivery of both front-end and back-end features, with end-to-end technical ownership of selected software components.

Key Responsibilities

Developing new features and enhancements across our modern software stack, with opportunities to work on both front-end and back-end systems.

Collaborating closely with other engineers, domain experts, and stakeholders to design smart solutions and solve technical challenges.

Supporting the agile development process through activities like planning, code reviews, testing, and continuous improvement.

Taking ownership of your work, from concept through to delivery and support.

Contributing your ideas and experience while helping to mentor and guide junior developers as needed.

About you:

You will bring a strong technical foundation, a proactive approach to problem-solving, and a passion for developing mission-critical software systems.

You don’t need to tick every box—but here’s what would help you thrive in this role:

Essentials:

A solid understanding of software engineering principles and the full development lifecycle.

Experience working with web-based applications and modern software engineering practices.

Comfort working in Linux and/or Windows environments.

A collaborative mindset and the ability to think laterally when tackling complex problems.

Nice to Have (but not required):

Exposure to DevSecOps tools and processes.

Experience with Go, TypeScript, Python, Java, or C++.

Familiarity with Agile development, team collaboration, or leadership.

An interest in cloud platforms, containerisation, or Kubernetes
