About The Lab:
The Microscopy and Spatial Cell Biology Facility at QIMR Berghofer provides high-level microscopy services for researchers at the institute. The Facility houses a large number of modern microscopy instruments including confocal, multiphoton, widefield fluorescence, slide scanners, multi-well live cell imagers and single cell spatial biology platforms.
Role Purpose / Responsibilities:
We are seeking a Microscopy Analyst with a passion for applying their microscopy and analytical skills to medical research that can contribute positively to society.
Reporting to Microscopy and Spatial Cell Biology Facility Manager, you will use your microscopy knowledge and skills to assist and support QIMR Berghofer scientists meet their research outcomes. In this role, you will primarily be responsible for providing training and support in microscopy related activities within the facility. Specific activities will include experimental design, instrument training, assistance and training of bioimage processing and analysis, data management and troubleshooting and other activities associated with the day-to-day operations of the facility.
The following duties will apply:
- Provide exceptional imaging and microscopy services to researchers within QIMR Berghofer.
- Ensure the appropriate management, maintenance, and troubleshooting of specialised equipment in the facility, including liaising with vendors, service personnel and the Institute’s Equipment Manager
- Monitor and manage instrument data storage capacity to ensure continuous instrument operability and date security and integrity
- Liaise with internal stake holders and vendors to coordinate installation of new instrumentation
- Provide specialist training to new users on complex instrumentation in the facility and ongoing technical assistance as required
- Assist in managing workflow for a small team, assist and support other areas of Scientific Services and build relationships with internal and external customers
- Utilise expertise and experience to continuously improve the service
About you:
To be successful in this role, you will hold at least a Bachelor’s degree in Science/Biomedical Science or related field. You will have sound knowledge of microscopy and bioimage analysis theory and expertise. A bright, enthusiastic, client/service-oriented approach, good communication skills and a high-level of attention to detail are essential for this role.

Remuneration: Salary range is $106,593.73 to $113,554.52 p.a. plus super and generous salary packaging. This is a full-time, ongoing appointment.
