Purpose of the position

The FWBO’s primary role is to support the Team Leader by providing front line case management to achieve better outcomes in accordance with the goals of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander families.

Responsibilities and duties

  • Participate in assessment, case planning, organisation and delivery of service provision and interventions, reporting and engagement for families
  • Follow Assessment and Case Management procedures and standards and contribute to continual improvement of services
  • Build respectful and professional relationships with service users, agencies, partners, community, colleagues and clients
  • Case coordination – Ensure quality record management and implement Case Plans, including advocating for, supporting and journeying with the family to achieve their desired outcomes
  • Work always to advance the reputation of CQID and undertake additional relevant duties as required
  • Participate and contribute to the organisation’s compliance obligations under the ISO 9001:2015 Quality Management System and Human Services Quality Standards (HSQS)
  • At all times work within CQID’s Workplace Health & Safety Policies and Procedures
  • Other responsibilities as directed by the Team Leader

Qualifications and experience

• Holds a current C Class Queensland Driver’s Licence

• Current Working with Children Check, “Blue Card”

• Holds or is willing to obtain a First Aid and CPR Certificate

• Experience at successful service delivery to Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people

• Qualifications or knowledge relating to Child Protection

• Experienced in client engagement and case collaboration

Skills and attributes

• Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander heritage – [Note: Non-Indigenous applicants will only be considered if no suitable Indigenous candidates are attracted in the first round of applicants]

• Knowledge of the Child Protection Act 1999

• Competent in use of Microsoft Office and client management system software

• Physical ability to undertake job responsibilities, including the capacity to travel away from home to achieve family finding and reunification goals

• Ability to communicate effectively; spoken and written • Outcome orientated, self-starter, motivated and able to self-manage work tasks and achieve results

• Demonstrable capacity to find family and achieve positive outcomes for children and families

• Understanding and knowledge of the child protection system • Strong advocate for children, young people and families

• Thorough understanding of and ability to practice a strength based and culturally sensitive approach with children/youth, their parents and extended family/kin.

• An awareness of Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander culture and society, the issues relating to Aboriginal children and family welfare and the ability to effectively communicate with Aboriginal families.

• Strong connection to and knowledge of local Indigenous Community

• Experience in developing and managing case plans
