Airswift is partnering with a Growing Engineering partner who deliver high quality engineering services across multiple industries and clients within the energy infrastructure sector. We are looking for Primary and Secondary Electrical Design Engineer for Substations projects based in Perth.

This role is an opportunity to join a team helping to deliver transmission and renewable energy projects, including the delivery of large-scale 220kV/33kV substations across Western Australia.

Their portfolio includes high-voltage transmission networks, renewable energy integration, and complex grid-scale projects. As part of this major development program, you’ll be joining a team focused on delivering innovative and technically complex substations in a fast-paced, multidisciplinary environment.

Key Responsibilities

Prepare detailed primary and secondary electrical designs for high-voltage substations (up to 220kV), including layout drawings, schematics, wiring diagrams, and termination schedules.

Develop and review technical documentation such as design reports, equipment specifications, cable schedules, and interface documents.

Conduct substation layout design, including equipment arrangement, earthing systems, and cable routing.

Perform calculations for clearances, voltage drops, short-circuit levels, and protection coordination.

Support the development of protection and control schemes, including logic diagrams and relay settings.

Collaborate with multi-disciplinary teams to ensure design integration across civil, structural, and secondary systems.

Review vendor drawings and ensure compliance with design specifications and Australian standards.

Provide design input during project planning, procurement, construction, and commissioning phases.

Support design validation through design reviews, risk assessments, and constructability analysis.

Ensure compliance with relevant standards (e.g. AS/NZS 2067, 7000, 3000) and client-specific design requirements.

What We’re Looking For

Bachelor’s Degree in Electrical Engineering or related discipline.

7+ years’ experience in substation design within the utilities, mining, or power generation sectors.

Proven capability in both primary systems (e.g. switchyard layouts, busbar arrangements) and secondary systems (e.g. protection, control, SCADA).

Strong knowledge of Australian electrical standards (e.g. AS/NZS 3000, 2067, 7000).

Experience managing vendor interfaces and delivering technical outcomes in complex environments.

Excellent communication and stakeholder engagement skills.
