About the role
The First Nations Project Officer - Commissioning will work as a key member of a geographically dispersed team to deliver timely and efficient project support to the Commissioning portfolio and wider organisation. This work can include but is not limited to planning, coordination, stakeholder engagement, consultation, project support and high-level administration support. Through this work, this role contributes significantly to the health outcomes of First Nations people in the Hunter, New England, and Central Coast regions.
The First Nations Project Officer - Commissioning will use initiative, flexibility, and self-direction to manage the day-to-day requirements with a high degree of competency and enthusiasm. The role will work closely with internal and external stakeholders to ensure consultation and involvement of appropriate stakeholders is undertaken and allocated activities are delivered on time. The First Nations Project Officer – Commissioning role supports the strategic objectives of the PHN by providing information, communication, and process support of value to enable strong First Nations engagement and robust internal processes.
The successful candidate will have:
- Demonstrated experience working with First Nations people and communities and an understanding of, and commitment to health equity.
- Experience working in the primary health care sector.
- Relevant qualifications and/or extensive experience in project management.
- Excellent interpersonal and written communication skills with strong attention to detail.
- Demonstrated ability to: work independently and in a collaborative team environment, build and maintain relationships with key internal and external stakeholders to deliver outcomes & apply change management principles.
- Demonstrated organisation and time management skills.
- Identify as being Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander and be an active member within your community.

Additional Information
*PHN's have been funded by the Department of Health since 2015. All roles at our PHN are maximum-term and linked to our funding contracts with the Department of Health. This is a maximum term contract until 30 June 2026 and any contract extensions are dependent on ongoing funding.
**Salary: This role is classified as F - J within our Enterprise Agreement and the rate will be dependent on skills and experience/qualifications. New appointments are generally offered between grade F - I.
