Location: Crawley, Western Australia

The Swan Region encompasses both the metropolitan Perth and the Peel region. It extends along the west coast from Lancelin in the north to south of Mandurah and east to the edge of the Wheatbelt from Quindanning to Bolgart. The Swan Region employs over 200 staff across multiple work centres (Mandurah, Wanneroo, Yanchep, Fremantle, Mundaring, Jarrahdale and Dwellingup) with the regional headquarters based at Crawley.

We currently have an opportunity for a Regional Leader Sustainable Forest Management to join our team.

Under the minimal direction of the Regional Manager, this position leads and coordinates the delivery of Sustainable Forest Management (SFM) service and related environmental impact assessment processes and activities across the Swan Region including:

  • Coordinates the delivery of ecologically sustainable forest management within the Swan Region.
  • Mining liaison and monitoring in the region.
  • Advising and setting program priorities, preparing budgets and reviewing program expenditure and revenue.
  • Establishing standards and monitoring work quality.
  • Liaising and networking with the community, key stakeholders and special interest groups.
  • Representing the region on matters relating to SFM.

Selection Criteria

  1. Considerable knowledge of, and experience in the management of sustainable forest management and sustainable natural resources issues and strategic planning; including environmental impact assessment, developing operational plans, management plans and strategies, and having familiarity with the principles of planning and ecologically sustainable forest management.
  2. Evidence of highly developed interpersonal and oral communication skills and considerable experience in effective liaison and negotiation at a senior level to achieve organisational objectives, with other government agencies, industry, stakeholders, Aboriginal groups, community interest groups and the media; and handling and resolving complex and detailed information requests.
  3. Considerable experience, knowledge and skills in high level leadership supervisory, organisational, works program planning and human resource management skills including a demonstrated ability to promote staff development, deal with contentious issues and improve performance, empowering staff to achieve agreed outcomes.
  4. Considerable experience in and knowledge of administration and financial management including budget preparation and expenditure control.
