About the role

As a Principal Strategic Planner at Yarra Ranges Council, you will lead the development and implementation of strategies and policies for sustainable land use including implementation of Activity Centre Structure Plans and the Housing Strategy. You'll provide expert advice to the organisation, government, and community, ensuring transparency, equity, and compliance with legislative requirements. In this senior role, you’ll manage complex, high-impact projects and deliver continuous improvement across the strategic planning services.

This is a full-time permanent position (38 hours per week).

This is a Band 8 role with a salary range/hourly rate between $124,810 and $139,859 per annum, plus superannuation.

Support work-life balance with a monthly rostered day off and hybrid working arrangements.

Experience and skills we’re looking for

To be successful in this role, you will have:

Experience in developing, managing, and implementing complex strategic land use policies, strategies, projects, and planning scheme amendments.

Ability to work cooperatively within a team and provide mentoring to accomplish group goals and manage the performance of consultants.

High-level technical expertise in strategic land use planning and the ability to provide timely, accurate advice to stakeholders.

Proven ability to identify strategic issues and develop innovative, practical land use planning responses.

Resilience and adaptability to manage time and resources efficiently, even in the face of obstacles.

Strong customer service skills, including the ability to act as an advocate and provide quality advice to all stakeholders.

Tertiary qualification in Planning or a related field, with extensive experience in strategic planning.
