The Team Leader - Counselling coordinates a team of counsellors who provides professional counselling support to all CDU students.

About the Position
As the Team Leader - Counselling, you will be responsible for coordinating a team of counsellors who provide professional counselling support to all CDU students. This will include working with students, CDU staff, and stakeholders to support students in their study goals so that students are aided to develop skills to manage personal issues that may be impacting on the achievement of academic goals. The Team Leader - Counselling spearheads initiatives that proactively promote student wellbeing, driving improvements in retention and enhancing the overall student experience through evidence-based, targeted programs. This role plays a key part in ongoing service review and development, ensuring CDU’s counselling services deliver effective, responsive support grounded in best practice to meet the evolving needs of CDU’s student cohort.

About You
To be successful, you will require:

  • Completion of (or progress towards) a relevant postgraduate degree (e.g. Psychology or Social Work) and registration or eligibility for registration with the Australian Health Practitioner Regulation Agency (Psychology) or membership or eligibility for membership of the Australian Association of Social Workers.
  • Extensive and diverse counselling experience along with highly developed interpersonal skills that include the ability to communicate effectively within a cross cultural environment comprising both students and staff in a tertiary education context.
  • Demonstrated commitment towards maintaining high professional standards including the adherence to maintaining client confidentiality and knowledge of the relevant legislation within which the University and counselling practice operates.
  • A capacity to work in an ethical and professional manner, working independently as well as part of a team.
  • Proficient in using a diverse range of computer software, including office management packages, and client management systems.
  • Extensive and diverse counselling experience in an educational and/or human service environment, and experience in crisis intervention in a primary care setting desirable.
  • Postgraduate qualifications or progress towards postgraduate qualifications and extensive relevant experience or an equivalent combination of relevant experience and education or training.
  • Capacity to lead and coordinate a team of three counsellors to achieve the aims of Equity Services to assist students to meet their study goals.
  • Demonstrated ability to develop, implement and deliver projects and continuous improvement initiatives to benefit students and contribute to the university community.
  • Ability to identify opportunities for the counselling service to develop and grow its service and outreach to students.

Remuneration
Appointment to this role will be at Professional Level 8. The base salary will be in the range of $104,888 - $118,578 per annum. The total remuneration package will be in the range of $122,718 - $138,736 per annum, including 17% superannuation.
