About the role

Are you passionate about supporting and empowering young people? MSJ Australia is seeking a Residential Youth Worker on a casual basis to join our dedicated team in Cairns, Queensland. In this essential role, you will provide a safe, nurturing, and supportive environment for young people in our residential homes. This is a fantastic opportunity to make a meaningful difference in the lives of vulnerable youth.

What you'll be doing

• Engage with and support young residents in daily living activities, such as meal preparation, personal care, and recreational activities
• Facilitate and participate in therapeutic and educational programs to promote the personal, social, and emotional development of young people
• Advocate for the rights and wellbeing of young residents and collaborate with external service providers to ensure their needs are met
• Maintain accurate and detailed case notes and contribute to the development of care plans
• Assist in the management of the residential facility, including cleaning, laundry, and other administrative tasks
• Respond appropriately to critical incidents and emergencies, adhering to organisational policies and procedures

What we're looking for

• Relevant qualifications in youth work, social work, or a related field
• Experience working with young people in a residential, community, or educational setting
• Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to build trusting relationships with young people
• Demonstrated understanding of the challenges facing vulnerable youth and a commitment to their empowerment and wellbeing
• Ability to work effectively in a team and contribute to a positive, supportive, and collaborative work environment
• Willingness to work flexible hours, including weekends and public holidays, as required
• Current first aid certificate and driver's licence
