Trainee Outdoor Activity Instructor

Full time – 18 months

We are currently seeking an enthusiastic and motivated Trainee to join our team!

The Swan Valley Adventure Centre (SVAC) is located within the Perth metropolitan area, on a unique 89 acres of stunning Swan Valley wilderness. Swan Valley Adventure Centre has 6 camp houses accommodating up to 268 guests. The adventure centre features over 20 outdoor activities promoting educational outcomes, teamwork and enjoyment for all. All activities are linked to the Australian curriculum. We use experiential learning to develop the students in a variety of outcome-based activity programmes, such as leadership, problem-solving, etc.

The 18-month Traineeship is a Full-Time position, which will result in you gaining a Cert III in Outdoor Leadership, as well as qualifications such as Abseiling and Top Rope Climbing Guide, Canoe and Kayaking Guide, leading Archery and High Ropes, and more!

About the role:

Outdoor Instructors plan, guide and provide instruction in activities such as abseiling, rock climbing, and canoeing, utilising their knowledge and skill to maximise safety and enjoyment. Instructors have the opportunity to work with clients from a variety of different backgrounds and demographics.

As a Trainee, you will be supervised and mentored while you complete your Certificate III in Outdoor Leadership, learning and developing a variety of personal and interpersonal skills such as:

Team building

Confidence

Leadership skills

Decision making

Communication skills

Essential criteria:

Driver’s licence (Manual)

First Aid Certificate (desirable)

Willing to obtain a Working with Children Check

Willing to obtain a National Police Clearance

Physically capable to perform the tasks required for the nature and demands of the role

A minimum of 17 years and 9 months of age at the time of application (18 years minimum during the Traineeship)
