About the Opportunity

The Senior Data Engineer is the Library's champion for all its data. The role contributes to building a data-driven culture within the library with particular focus on data architecture, design and ongoing development.

Working closely with the business, the Senior Data Engineer gathers requirements from stakeholders and ensures alignment between our data, business strategies, enterprise transformation activities and technology directions as well as being pivotal in complying with policies, standards and best practices.

The Senior Data Engineer is accountable for the following measurable outcomes:

• Delivery and ongoing management of an end-to-end greenfield data ecosystem to meet policies, standards and best practice requirements.
• Data warehousing - building an extract, transform, load (ETL) system and data pipelines in accordance with policy, procedure and best practice.
• Data provision - extraction and interpretation of Library, Customer and third-party data to enable automated production of standard and ad hoc reports that inform the day-to-day operations of the Library.
• Data engineering - transformation of raw data into scalable data models and building a single source of truth for the Library.
• Data governance, lineage, and documentation - developing data dictionaries and business glossaries in consultation with end users, as well as understanding, mapping and monitoring data lineage in the provided tooling.

About You

The successful candidate brings a strong, analytical mindset, coupled with a deep understanding of the data landscape and relevant systems and practices across the industry. Proficient with Python, SQL, AWS, and Databricks, you also possess extensive knowledge in building and optimising data-driven products.

In addition, you will come to us with:

• A recognised bachelor's degree in data science, data engineering, data analytics, computer science, information technology or equivalent professional experience.
• Extensive hands-on experience with Azure data services or AWS data services.
• A demonstratable track record working with projects in migrating data from a wide variety of sources, into a cloud data warehouse solution.
• Demonstrated experience working with data wrangling, data development, dimensional and relational data models and design thinking.
• Demonstrated experience working with structured query language, including (SQL) and Python orjs/JavaScript.
• Experience in Microsoft Power BI and data visualisation (desirable).
• Azure Data Engineer Associate or AWS certification (desirable).
• Experience with Big Query and Azure (desirable).
