Hours per fortnight

73.50 hours per fortnight - flexible options available.

Duties

  • Lead the Criminal Law program and manage its resources in accordance with program funding regulations, Legal Aid directions, policies, priorities and guidelines and State Service policies and procedures.
  • Develop and deliver programs including service area advice, assistance and representation across Tasmania in accordance with prescribed funding arrangements and operational service delivery requirements.
  • Have the carriage and conduct of complex and critical criminal matters before the Supreme Court and Tribunals.
  • Develop and implement systems and processes that support devolved decision-making and accountability within and across the Criminal Law program.
  • Manage, align and routinely report on allocated physical, financial and human resources in accordance with policies, procedures and regulations.
  • Develop and maintain effective working relationships with community, industry, state and national stakeholders including private legal practitioners, court staff, judicial officers, the Office of the Director of Public Prosecutions, the Department of Justice, National Legal Aid and the Office of the Attorney-General.
  • Collaborate with the Director Tasmania Legal Aid in providing legal, policy and strategic advice to Ministers, Heads of Agencies, state and national government departments and bodies conduct reviews on relevant and associated matters of significance.
  • Identify and provide staff development opportunities that will enhance and strengthen TLA’s service delivery capabilities.
  • As an active and engaged member of the TLA Executive, contribute to the development and implementation of ongoing service delivery improvement initiatives, programs and strategic priorities.
  • Establish and maintain sustainable relationships with internal and external stakeholders to effectively resolve issues and influence others in order to advance operational and strategic objectives.
  • Promote a supportive and collegial work environment through participation in the management team.
Essential Requirements
  • Admitted, or eligible for admission, as a Barrister or Practitioner of the Supreme Court of Tasmania, entered upon or eligible for admission to the High Court of Australia.
  • Current Tasmanian Registration to Work with Vulnerable People (Registration Status-Employment).
Desirable Requirements

Current Driver’s Licence.
