Technical Specialist - Electrical & Automation
A leader in advanced container handling and automation is seeking a skilled Technical Specialist – Electrical Systems to support operations at a high-tech terminal in Port Botany. Operating one of the most sophisticated automated straddle and quay crane systems in the world, this business is recognised for its commitment to safety, innovation, and continuous improvement.
Working a 3-weeks-on, 1-week-off roster, you'll play a pivotal role in maintaining and improving the reliability and performance of a fully automated container terminal — where uptime, precision, and real-time decision making are everything.
The Opportunity:
This role is best suited to an experienced Electrical Technician or Engineer with a current NSW Electrical Contractor’s Licence (or equivalent) who enjoys fault finding, high-pressure troubleshooting, and working within an industrial automation setting.
Key Responsibilities:
- Act as the first response for technical breakdowns relating to AutoStrads, wireless comms, and yard automation systems.
- Diagnose and resolve issues with automation-related ancillary equipment (e.g., TeleOp units, PDAs).
- Monitor, troubleshoot and support wireless local area network (WLAN) infrastructure critical to vehicle navigation systems.
- Liaise closely with OEMs and contractors to ensure the integrity of safety systems at the crane-straddle interface.
- Support terminal IT and engineering management with system-level diagnostics and plant improvement initiatives.
- Provide detailed technical reporting and insights into system performance and reliability.
- Lead by example in all facets of WHS compliance and promote a strong safety-first culture.
What You’ll Bring:
- NSW Electrical Contractor’s Licence (or equivalent recognised licence).
- Cert III in Electrotechnology or higher (Diploma or Advanced Diploma preferred).
- Solid background in industrial automation, automated materials handling, or heavy plant environments.
- Demonstrated ability in diagnosing faults within complex control systems and networks.
- Experience working with or supporting straddle carriers, automated cranes, or similar mobile plant highly advantageous.
- Exceptional interpersonal skills with a proactive, can-do mindset.
- Flexibility to work on a rotating 3:1 roster based in Sydney.

Job Type: Full-time, Permanent
Salary: $200k - $230k inc Super
Location: Sydney, NSW
