About the role

We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Sous Chef to join our dynamic team at The Vic Hotel Footscray, proudly serving the West. As Sous Chef, you will play a crucial role in supporting the Head Chef in the day-to-day operations of our busy kitchen, ensuring the delivery of exceptional culinary experiences for our guests. This is a full-time position based in Footscray, VIC 3011.

What you'll be doing

  • Assisting the Head Chef in menu planning, recipe development and food cost management
  • Overseeing the preparation, cooking and presentation of all dishes to the highest standards
  • Maintaining strict food safety and hygiene protocols
  • Effectively managing and mentoring the kitchen team, providing guidance and support as needed
  • Collaborating with the Front of House team to ensure seamless service delivery
  • Continuously seeking ways to improve kitchen efficiency and productivity

What we're looking for

  • Minimum 3-5 years experience as a Sous Chef or equivalent role in a high-volume, fast-paced hospitality environment
  • Strong culinary skills with a passion for creating innovative and delicious dishes
  • Excellent time management, multi-tasking and problem-solving abilities
  • Proven leadership skills and the ability to motivate and mentor a kitchen team
  • Thorough understanding of food safety regulations and kitchen operations
  • Creative flair and a commitment to using high-quality, fresh ingredients
