The Role

As the Defence Health Systems Assurance (DHSA) Officer, you will be responsible for monitoring and reporting the organisation, direction and oversight of governance and assurance activities undertaken across the Defence Health System.

You will lead the DHSA approach which seeks to provide confidence to senior leadership that Defence Health capability is fit for purpose and functioning as intended. Your main function is to inform and provide decision support to Joint Health Command executive staff on how activities within Defence Health System are being governed and assured relative to defined standards and performance markers.

You will provide guidance to health capability, governance and assurance leads from across the Defence organisation to assist them in achieving requirements within the expected performance targets for time, quality, and risk. As the DHSA Officer, you will provide advice, scrutiny, challenge and support to the Governance, Assurance and Performance team regarding the status and performance of the DHSA approach.

About our Team

The Governance, Assurance and Performance Directorate supports and enables Defence to align its health efforts and outcomes aligned to the Australian Defence Force (ADF) Health Strategy 2023. It seeks to alleviate challenges and manage risk through oversight and program governance controls. This includes a framework to support health and health related projects and initiatives, provision of advice to the Joint Health Command Executive team, health capability owners, key stakeholders and program governance oversight.

It supports a diverse range of activities across health strategy operationalisation, systems assurance, program management and continuous improvement and Innovation work streams. It is responsible for ensuring efforts and effects are aligned to broader Defence capability priorities.

As the Defence Health Systems Assurance (DHSA) is in mid-project stage, the DHSA Officer will work with and through the Deputy Director to lead and support a small team of specialist contractors who will provide subject matter expertise in the ongoing development and implementation of the DHSA Framework. The DHSA officer will be expected to manage the DHSA dashboard tool (SharePoint and PowerBI based) and conduct assurance activities on behalf of senior leadership.

Our Ideal Candidate

Our ideal candidate would possess the following personal attributes, skills and experience:

  • Experience or exposure with Defence or government agencies;
  • Health Experience or interest in Health and Quality Management;
  • Experience in governance / systems assurance roles;
  • Excellent stakeholder engagement & written/verbal communication skills;
  • Have SharePoint/Power BI experience; and
  • Be willing to travel for the purposes of overseeing assurance activities.
