Join our team at Transport and Main Roads as a Senior Communications Advisor and play a key role in delivering strategic communication outcomes that connect communities and support Queensland’s transport future.
About the Role
As the Senior Communications Advisor, you will lead communication and community engagement strategies for a significant transport infrastructure project. You will work closely with project teams, stakeholders, and community members to deliver transparent, timely, and impactful messaging.
Key Responsibilities
- Develop and deliver strategic communication plans aligned with project goals and milestones.
- Lead community and stakeholder engagement initiatives, including public consultations.
- Create compelling content across various platforms – media releases, social media, newsletters, and more.
- Coordinate communication with government bodies, project managers, and contractors.
- Prepare briefings, speeches, and presentations for executives and stakeholders.
- Monitor media coverage and public sentiment to adapt strategies.
- Manage crisis communication and ensure rapid response to emerging issues.
- Provide expert communication advice to senior leaders.
- Evaluate engagement success and report on outcomes.
- Ensure compliance with all legal and organisational standards.
- Mentor and support junior communication staff.
Mandatory Requirements
- Minimum 5 years of experience in communications and community engagement (preferably in infrastructure, construction, or government).
- IAP2 Certification (or willingness to obtain it independently).
Desirable Attributes
- Degree in communications, public relations, journalism, or marketing.
- Current Class C Driver’s Licence.
- Demonstrated success delivering large-scale communication strategies.
- Exceptional writing and presentation skills.
- Strong project management and multitasking abilities.
- Confident stakeholder management and negotiation skills.
- Knowledge of the Infrastructure Sustainability Council of Australia (ISCA) framework is a plus.

Work Conditions
- Up to 38 hours per week, Monday to Friday.
- Office hours between 6am–6pm and remote work (as agreed) between 6am–10pm.
- Travel to construction sites may be required and will be arranged post-appointment.
