Who are we looking for?
We are seeking a Lecturer in Statistical Data Science to join School of Mathematical Sciences, Faculty of Science.
The School of Mathematical Sciences at QUT is looking to recruit a Lecturer in Statistical Data Science (Level B) who is able to provide strategic capacity in both research and teaching within the School. We are seeking applicants with expertise in the development of new data analysis methods for challenging stochastic models. The ideal candidate will have demonstrated expertise in computational methods in statistics, particularly in simulation-based inference methods, or Monte Carlo methods, and their associated theory or applications. Applications from other areas of statistical data science, applied probability, or machine learning are also welcome to apply.

The School of Mathematical Sciences (SMS) is a vibrant, multidisciplinary school with extensive teaching and research programs covering the fields of statistics, operations research and applied and computational mathematics. The mathematics discipline at QUT is ranked 3rd in Australia (ScholarGPS Lifetime ranking). There are currently 30 full-time academic staff members employed in the School, including nine Professors and six Associate Professors. The school also employs over 20 research only academic staff in full time and part time positions. Over the past five years staff of the school have held ten prestigious Australian Research Council fellowships including eight ARC Discovery Early Career fellowships and two Future fellowships..
What you need to succeed
- Completion of doctoral qualification in statistics or a highly related discipline.
- Demonstrated ability to develop and maintain a research program that supports and complements existing research strengths in the School of Mathematical Sciences.
- Demonstrated academic research excellence and originality in computational statistics with a particular focus on simulation-based inference methods, Monte Carlo methods, or a related field, evidenced by publications in high quality research journals and conferences.
- Ability to supervise higher degree research students.
- Ability to coordinate and teach a range of undergraduate units including specialised classes in the Bachelor of Mathematics and Data Science degrees as well as large classes to students in other disciplines.
- 6. Ability to implement innovative teaching practices including blended learning and authentic assessment.
