About the Role
We are seeking a highly skilled Biomedical Engineer to join our dynamic team. The ideal candidate will be responsible for designing, developing, and testing biomedical devices and sensor technologies, particularly for applications in biosensing, medical diagnostics, and wearable technology. This role involves collaboration with multidisciplinary teams, including chemists, electronic engineers, and medical professionals, to enhance biomedical solutions.
Salary & Package
Salary $120,000
More senior applicants will be considered on an experience and merit basis, and remuneration will be matched accordingly.
Flexible work hours.
Working from home is allowed some days.
Key Responsibilities
Design, develop, and optimize biosensors and medical devices for healthcare applications.
Create microfluidic systems for extracting, handling, and real-time sensing of analytes while optimizing flow dynamics for better efficiency, sensitivity, and accuracy in biosensing.
Integrate electronics, microfluidics, and biochemical components into medical devices.
Expertise in biomaterials, coatings, and biocompatibility for medical device applications.
Understanding material properties (polymers, ceramics, metals, nanomaterials) for biocompatible sensors and implants.
Knowledge of cytotoxicity, biofouling prevention, and long-term stability of biomedical materials.
Develop prototypes, conduct performance analysis, and troubleshoot biomedical systems.
Research and development into skin biomechanics and microneedle interactions, ensuring reliable and reproducible penetration of microneedles into the skin.
Ensure compliance with ISO 10993 (biocompatibility testing), ISO 13485, FDA, TGA, and other relevant regulatory standards.
Collaborate with cross-functional teams to advance biomedical projects from concept to commercialization.
Conduct risk assessments and validation studies for medical device safety and efficacy.
Document findings, create reports, and present research findings to stakeholders.
About You – Skills & Experience
A degree in Biomedical Engineering, Medical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Biotechnology, or a related field.
Proven experience in biomechanics research, biosensor development, and wearable medical devices is preferred.
Strong knowledge of biomedical signal processing, microfabrication, and analytical chemistry.
Excellent problem-solving skills with the ability to work effectively in both laboratory and industrial settings.
Expertise in designing and executing experiments to validate sensor technologies.
Experience in characterizing tissue-material interactions and utilizing biomechanical testing methodologies.
Comprehensive knowledge of regulatory standards for biomedical devices, including ISO, FDA, and TGA.
Proficiency in 3D modelling and CAD software.
Strong communication skills for technical documentation and team collaboration

This role is based in Wynnum, QLD 4178, Australia.
