THE POSITION

The Director of the Moreton Bay Colleges’ Early Learning Centre will be a passionate, child-centred educator, as well as a focus on the wellbeing of staff. The Director will be responsible for the effective and efficient operation of the Early Leaning Centre in accordance with the standards, policies and directions of Moreton Bay College and relevant Government legislation and regulations. The successful applicant will ensure a high quality care and education service to all children and their families at all times.

The Director will work with the Leadership Team to ensure that the Centre maintains an appropriate level of involvement with the Early Years sector and other areas of the College. The expectation of the Director is one of high quality leadership and innovation. The role reports directly to the Deputy Head of Primary (Early Learning) who oversees the operation of the Kindy and ELC.

THE EARLY LEARNING CENTRE

Moreton Bay Colleges’ Early Learning Centre provides a safe, supportive and nurturing environment for the boys and girls in its care. The Early Learning Centre is a fully licensed 69 place Long Day Care Centre available to both girls and boys and includes facilities catering for children aged 15 months to 4 years. The Centre currently operates from 6:30am to 6:00pm Monday to Friday (except for Public Holidays), for 50 weeks of the year – closing only for two weeks over the Christmas and New Year period.

All staff need to be supportive of the values, Christian ethos and Ethical Statement of this Uniting Church Day school for girls from EY-12.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Leadership responsibilities:

  • Maintain a knowledge of the National Quality Framework and Standards and Early Years Learning Framework.
  • Keep abreast of current Early Childhood issues in the community and beyond, attending regular professional development sessions.
  • Lead, coach and develop a highly functioning team of educators.
  • Lead innovative practice to staff in the Early Learning Centre.
  • Contribute to staff meetings and professional learning programs for all Early Learning Centre staff.
  • Contribute to the Quality Improvement Plan for the Early Learning area.
  • Contribute to the planning of events and activities in collaboration with leadership and staff to build a positive family community.
  • Work with the College Registrars to promote and market the service to increase utilisation and viability and sustain enrolments.
  • Manage up to date waitlists and the enrolments for the Early Learning Centre.
  • Engage in continual reflective practice.

General responsibilities:

  • Responsible for the day-to-day operation of the Centre.
  • Work alongside the leadership team to develop, implement and supervise developmental programs and the quality of care that the service provides.
  • Maintain appropriate policies and procedures.
  • Meet regularly with the Early Learning Leadership Team.
  • Be responsible for maintaining an appropriate level of staffing, including responsibility for rosters, timesheets, relief cover etc.
  • Identify and assist in meeting in-service training needs of staff, for example staff meetings, professional development opportunities etc.
  • Establish and maintain effective communication systems with staff and parents.
  • Maintain a good understanding of the CCS Rebate and Government reporting.
  • Establish and maintain liaison with other agencies in the community, for example Department of Communities, TAFE, Universities, Childcare organisations etc.
  • Contribute to staff recruitment in consultation with Human Resources and the Leadership Team.
  • Contribute to the adherence to all relevant regulations.
  • Work within the Early Learning Centre budget formulated with the Leadership Team.
  • Contribute to new resource and equipment purchases.
  • Manage inventory of resources.
  • Process purchase orders for the Early Learning Centre as required.
  • Maintain appropriate resources, consumables and other supplies in accordance with the annual budget.
  • Support of current and new staff.
  • Comply with all Government requirements regarding staff working in long day care centres.
  • Contribute to family tours and develop new family enrolment packs.
  • Manage weekly rosters.
  • Create and manage casual bookings for occasional care.
  • Have a shared responsibility for staff leave approvals
  • Assist in the day-to-day operation of the financial systems (OWNA).
  • Work collaboratively with the Educational Leader in the service.
  • Actively contribute to a safety citizenship culture upholding health and safety policies, procedures, hazard reporting and safe work practices.

SKILLS AND ABILITIES
The Director of the Early Learning Centre will:

  • Have the ability to lead and develop teams.
  • Have excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Have highly developed time management skills.
  • Work collaboratively and productively with colleagues.
  • Have a strong understanding of the Early Years Learning Framework and National Quality Standards.
  • Provide challenging, student-centred approaches to learning.
  • Communicate and interact openly and effectively.
  • Support use technologies effectively in the teaching/learning program.
  • Describe their practices in planning, implementing, monitoring, assessment and evaluation.
  • Have a good understanding of Child Protection and reporting requirements.

The Director of the Early Learning Centre must be:

  • Articulate their philosophy of learning.
  • A self-directed learner.
  • Willing to contribute to curriculum development.
  • Prepared to approach change positively.
  • Flexible in approach and thinking.
  • Passionate about teaching and learning.
  • Empathetic to the needs of students and parents.

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE
The Director of the Early Learning Centre must

  • Hold an appropriate Early Years tertiary qualification.
  • Minimum 2 years relevant experience.

CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS

  • Must have current Paid Blue Card (or positive exemption).
  • A current first aid certificate (ACECQA approved).
  • Current Asthma & Anaphylaxis certificates (ACECQA approved).
