Our client is a NSW government agency that oversees a policy, legislative, investigative and program focus on matters ranging from local government finance, infrastructure, governance, performance etc.
The Assistant Accountant will work as part of a corporate services team to provide financial and business services to the agency
Role Description:
The Assistant Accountant will manage and maintain timely and accurate financial records - including accounts payable, accounts receivable and general ledgers, and is responsible for the full functions of accounts payables - including processing, verifying, and reconciling invoices and payments.
Responsibilities:
- Manage and maintain timely and accurate financial records in the Objective bespoke document and record management system
- Responsibility for the full functions of service procurement and accounts payable - including purchase order creation, goods and service receipts, invoice verification, payment voucher creation and payment reconciliation.
- Assist in the month-end and year-end activities - including accrual journals preparation, capital asset management, cashflow management, general ledger reconciliation, inter-company transactions and statutory reporting
- Assist in project accounting - including project budgeting, forecasting, actual spending reporting, variance analysis and scenario modelling and analysis.
- Assists in preparing project financial reporting
Skills and Experience:
- Sound working knowledge and experience with SAP FI and MM modules
- Proven ability to operate autonomously and efficiently in an environment that features a high volume of financial transactions
- Advanced skills in Excel.
- Minimum of 3 years experience in financial accounting.
- Tertiary qualifications in accounting
- CPA or CA qualifications an advantage (not essential)
- Experience in government or large corporate environment
