Are you passionate about shaping the future of infrastructure in Victoria? Do you have a keen eye for risk management and a drive to deliver innovative insurance solutions? We're looking for a skilled Construction Underwriter to join our dynamic team at VMIA.

  • Salary Range - $136,517 to $151,628 (total remuneration package inclusive of super).

Key responsibilities

  • Provide expert advice and underwriting solutions for complex and large-scale construction projects across Victoria, including rail, roads, hospitals, schools, and other government infrastructure.
  • Collaborate with stakeholders to ensure optimal risk transfer models and maintain strong relationships with reinsurance brokers to secure cost-effective solutions.
  • Develop and maintain specialised knowledge in construction insurance, staying updated on market trends and legal developments.


Your role dimensions

  • Delegations - As per the VMIA Instrument of Delegation.
  • Authority -As per the VMIA Instrument of Authorisation.


Who you work with

  • VMIA Clients: Provide timely advice and support to meet their unique needs while protecting the insurance program.
  • Construction Team: Collaborate to develop and improve construction insurance solutions.
  • Pricing and Capital Management: Work together to set premiums and develop pricing strategies for major projects.
  • Claims Team: Ensure fair and reasonable claim settlements and agree on reporting procedures.
  • Finance: Ensure accurate premium accounting to support VMIA's financial management.
  • Risk, Insurance, and Claims Services Division: Collaborate with colleagues across the division.
  • Insurance Service Providers: Consult with brokers, underwriters, and reinsurers to optimise product coverage and maintain market knowledge.


What we are looking for

  • Minimum 5 years of experience in insurance underwriting or broking.
  • Strong understanding of commercial insurance products and reinsurance markets.
  • Excellent analytical and interpersonal skills.


Qualifications

  • You hold or are working towards tertiary qualifications in a relevant discipline or Insurance professional qualifications is highly desirable.
  • You hold membership with ANZIIF, or equivalent body is highly desirable.
  • You are governed by the fit and proper person as per APRA guidelines, i.e. not listed on the disqualified persons register (Insurance ACT section 25(A) 1) and is not convicted of a criminal offence or bankrupt.

Salary Information

At VMIA, we offer competitive salaries based on the role's classification and your skills and experience. Typically, new employees start at the minimum of the salary range, however, consideration may be given to starting above the minimum of the band should you demonstrate extensive experience in a similar role or possess unique and desirable skills and capabilities required to perform the role.
