Great Barrier Reef and Marine Parks (GBR&MP) Region are excited to share an incredible opportunity for a Ranger (Vessel Master) to join the team on a permanent basis.

As one of the six regions of the Queensland Parks and Wildlife Service, the GBR&MP Region delivers conservation and management activities across land and sea including implementing the Reef Joint Field Management Program.

In this role you'll operate and maintain patrol vessels up to 24m, including the 21m Island Guardian, conducting offshore patrols.

Key duties include vessel operations, maintenance, marine conservation, and enforcement. You'll work in remote areas, ensuring safety and compliance with AMSA regulations. Strong marine engineering skills and good physical fitness are essential.

This hands-on role involves dynamic fieldwork, plus administrative tasks, reporting, and staff training. If you're an experienced mariner with a passion for conservation, this may be the change you've been looking for.

Role focus:

  • Supervise a team to deliver projects, maintain park infrastructure, and manage resources within budgets.
  • Plan and execute projects, including fire management, weed and pest control, and park infrastructure development.
  • Conduct park patrols, enforce regulations, assist in investigations, and coordinate emergency response procedures.
  • Maintain relationships with communities, answer public inquiries, provide education, and ensure positive visitor experiences.

To be considered you must hold the following qualifications:

  • an unrestricted manual driver's licence
  • AMSA Master
