Great Barrier Reef and Marine Parks (GBR&MP) Region are excited to share an incredible opportunity for an Assistant Principal Ranger to join the team on a temporary basis through to 30 September 2025 (with potential extension).
As one of the six regions of the Queensland Parks and Wildlife Service, the GBR&MP Region delivers conservation and management activities across land and sea including implementing the Reef Joint Field Management Program.
Step into a high-impact leadership role where your passion for conservation meets strategic coordination and on-ground action.
This dynamic role coordinates and delivers key operational programs across the region, including fire, pest, asset, and visitor management. Supporting the Principal Ranger and Regional Director, you'll ensure strategic, efficient use of resources aligned with legislation and business plans.
You'll oversee a diverse asset portfolio—bothterrestrial and marine—driving capital works, equipment operations, and ongoing maintenance. From enhancing visitor experiences to managing Commonwealth Islands and supporting ranger training and safety, your leadership will have a lasting impact.

Role focus:
• Lead and coordinate multi-disciplinary regional teams to deliver key estate management programs including fire, pest, asset, and visitor management.
• Plan, manage, and report on operational schedules, budgets, capital works and emergency response activities, ensuring alignment with QPWS strategic outcomes.
• Develop systems and provide advice on protected area management policies, procedures and approvals for natural resource and environmental applications.
• Foster strong stakeholder relationships with communities, Traditional Owners, government agencies, and interest groups to support collaborative and effective park management.

To be considered you must hold the following qualifications:
• An unrestricted manual driver's licence.
A Coxswain NSCV1 licence is highly desirable in Marine Ranger roles but is not a mandatory requirement.
Formal qualifications related to Conservation and Land Management, Science or Project Management would be highly regarded.
