Newton Geotechnical Services are a niche civil construction company looking for a Civil Engineer and Project Manager! Specialising in slope stabilisation and remediation we are looking for someone with minimum 5 years engineering experience with 1 year minimum in Project Management.

The Engineer and Project Manager (EPM) will play a key role in overseeing a dynamic team and overall day-to-day operations of civil construction sites specialising in slope stabilisation and remediation. This role combines engineering expertise and project management skills, ensuring the successful delivery of projects within scope, on time, and within budget, to the highest quality standards, while also meeting the Company’s ISO requirements. You will also assist in Tender applications and strategic business development.

The role requires a hands-on approach to managing site operations, client communication, and problem-solving while maintaining high standards of quality, safety, and environmental compliance.

The ideal candidate will have strong leadership skills, ability to work within a team, technical expertise in civil construction, and a deep understanding of safety, quality, and environmental ISO compliance. Will be physically fit, work well under pressure, be reliable, adaptable, committed to maintaining high standards, and able to work effectively on both remote or urban projects.

Experience

Minimum 5 years’ experience in project engineering with 1 year in a Project Manager role within the civil construction industry, with a focus on slope stabilisation, remediation, or geotechnical projects.

Proven experience in project management within the civil engineering sector, particularly in slope stabilisation and remediation techniques (preferred).

Experience with slope stabilisation methods, including soil nails, drilling, grouting, shotcreting, rope access, mesh installation and earthworks (preferred).

Proven experience in managing and leading site teams across multiple sites.

Familiarity with ISO 9001, ISO 14001, and ISO 14005 standards and practices.

Proven experience in managing the full lifecycle of construction projects, from planning through to completion.

Strong knowledge and practical experience in managing site safety, regulatory compliance in slope stabilisation works and ISO standards.

Ability to analyse Tender documents, attend mandatory pre-tender site meetings and drawings to determine suitability and possible complexities of proposed project to be addressed.

Work collaboratively on Tender documents to determine and/or check materials, quantities, costings to Tender submissions.

Meeting all project and ISO documentation, ensuring it is completed accurately and stored correctly, including contracts, permits, progress reports, safety records, and change orders, project meetings, and inspections.

Assist with the preparation of project closeout documentation and ensure all final reports are submitted to clients on completion.

Skills

Strong knowledge of geotechnical engineering principles, slope stability analysis, and design methodologies.

Strong knowledge of civil construction methods, processes, and materials, particularly related to slope stabilisation and remediation.

Proven leadership and team management skills, with the ability to develop, motivate, and coordinate on-site teams and subcontractors.

Ability to manage schedules, and resources effectively.

Excellent verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to engage effectively with a variety of stakeholders.

Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to identify challenges and develop effective solutions under pressure and adapt to changing project requirements and conditions.

Proactive in addressing project risks and uncertainties, ensuring minimal disruption to timelines and budgets.

In-depth understanding of workplace health and safety regulations and best practices.

Familiarity with environmental regulations and sustainability practices in civil construction.

Excellent time management, organisational skills and attention to detail.

Customer service.

Ability to pass medical, and ongoing drug and alcohol screenings.

Proficiency in project management software and office tools (e.g., CAD Software, Dashpivot, Xero, project management software).

Education

Batchelor’s Degree in Civil Engineering, Geotechnical Engineering, or a related field.

Relevant engineering certification or profession accreditation (e.g.: Chartered Engineer, Professional Engineer) is highly desirable.

White Card / Construction Induction Card (essential).

Drivers Licence (essential).

Australian Work Rights (essential).

Working At Heights (essential).

First Aid and CPR certification (preferred).

Relevant certifications or training in Working at Heights, civil construction, or other related fields would be highly advantageous. Subject to change based on any above changes.
