Salary: $104,509 - $112,545 + $15,900 Salary Packaging + $2,000 Meal Allowance

About the Role & Client:
This full-time, permanent opportunity is with a respected Aboriginal Community Controlled Organisation delivering culturally safe clinical and community programs in the Northern Territory. As a Trauma-Informed Counsellor, you will play a key role in providing therapeutic outreach counselling and group-based healing activities across several important community-led initiatives.
The role supports individuals and families -helping to address the impacts of family violence and promote long-term wellbeing through a culturally grounded and trauma-informed approach.
Three-Part Model of Care:
Component One: Offers age-appropriate healing activities for women and children who are impacted by or at risk of experiencing family violence. The goal is to empower participants to take control of their lives, confront underlying issues, and work toward healthier futures.
Component Two: Delivers prevention-focused support for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander men, providing tools to recognise, prevent, and heal from family violence while reconnecting with their culture and community in meaningful ways.
Component Three: Focuses on young people at risk of experiencing and/or using family violence, including those in school settings or from families already accessing support. This component aims to break the cycle early through education and therapeutic engagement.
Key Responsibilities:
Therapeutic Counselling & Outreach
- Deliver trauma-informed counselling to clients across all components of the initiative.
- Provide individual and group-based support in clinic and community settings.
- Conduct outreach using a dedicated vehicle to enhance access and engagement.
Program Facilitation & Community Engagement
- Support the design and delivery of culturally appropriate healing and prevention activities.
- Engage respectfully with local community members and Elders.
- Work closely with a multidisciplinary team to ensure coordinated care.
Cultural Integrity & Safety
- Embed cultural respect and trauma awareness into daily practice.
- Prioritise client safety, autonomy, and cultural identity throughout the therapeutic process.
Your Background:
- Diploma or Degree in Counselling, Social Work or similar
- Experience in trauma-informed counselling, preferably in remote or outreach contexts
- Understanding of family violence in an intergenerational and cultural context
- Experience working with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander communities is highly valued
- Current NT Driver's Licence, Ochre Card (Working with Children Clearance), National Police Check (within 3 months), and COVID-19 vaccination certificate
