The Team:
The Child and Youth Mental Health Service is a tertiary level clinical mental health service, providing triage, assessment, treatment and support to young people aged 0-18 and their families statewide. The multidisciplinary team works across several sites and provides a therapeutic service for both inpatients and outpatients across Tasmania.
The Role:
As part of a multidisciplinary team delivering high quality mental health services in accordance with the Mental Health Services Strategic Plan, Mental Health Service principles, National Mental Health Standards, Agency policy, legal requirements and relevant professional competencies, the Dietician will undertake the delivery of quality recovery focused services to consumers of the Child & Youth Mental Health Service based on best practice principles and within a recovery framework. Service delivery is within a collaborative and multidisciplinary framework, that includes those with lived experiences.
As an effective member of the multidisciplinary team, the dietician (CYMHS South) will need:
- Demonstrated experience in a wide range of health and nutrition issues relevant to children and youth of Tasmania.
- Knowledge or willingness to learn about providing dietetic services to children and youth experiencing tertiary level mental health difficulties.
- Demonstrated experience in promoting community awareness and provide a health approach to improving health and wellbeing for young people impacted by mental health.
You will need
- Significant post graduate clinical dietetic experience working in a wide range of clinical areas, and a sound knowledge of contemporary evidence based dietetic practice.
- Exceptional communication and interpersonal skills, including demonstrated ability to interact appropriately and effectively with patients, their carers and team members, to network independently, to make a positive contribution to teams.
- Proven ability to be able to use professional experience and initiative to solve complex and novel problems in an efficient and logical manner without supervision.

Details of appointment:
Fixed term, part time, day worker position, working up to 15.2 hours per fortnight, immediate start until 06/03/2026.
Fixed term position commencing as soon as possible for approximately twelve (12) months.
Applicants should note that, for a period of twelve months from the date of publication, this selection process may be used to fill subsequent or similar full time, part time, and casual vacancies.
Salary: $110,425 to $126,703 per annum (Pro rata). Our Employer 11.5% superannuation contribution is on top of this amount.
- Salary range is in accordance with Allied Health Professionals Public Sector Unions Wages Agreement No.2 of 2022.
Allowances:
You’ll have access to salary package a range of benefits including living expenses up to $9,010 + $2,650 in meal entertainment each FBT year + other benefits if eligible.
- Please note that access to salaries beyond $119,290 is subject to qualifications and/or application to the personal upgrade scheme
In addition, the following allowances calculated on the salaried incremental point may be available:
- Professional Development Allowance of up to $1000 per annum

Eligibility:
Successful applicants will be required to meet the essential criteria.
- Tertiary qualification/program of study accredited by Dietitians Australia or overseas qualified dietitians will be required to complete Dietetic Skill Recognition (DSR) through Dietitians Australia.
- Eligible for full membership with Dietitian Australia
- Eligible to join the Accredited Practising Dietitian Program
- Current Working with Children Registration

It is the employee’s responsibility to ensure that registration/licences remain current and to advise the Employer if their circumstances change. This includes notifying the Employer if a registration/licence is revoked, cancelled, or has its conditions altered.

- Current Driver’s Licence
- Experience working with Young People experiencing eating disorders or other mental health conditions that can affect appetite/eating
