Life at Mission Australia

When you join the team at Mission Australia, you become part of a community who are determined to end homelessness and ensure people in need can thrive. United by our Christian purpose and values, we stand together with anyone who needs us, for as long as they need us. Find out more about us and our purpose.

Your Opportunity

While many people gamble for entertainment, a large number of Australians develop gambling habits that negatively impact themselves, their families and their communities. The Gamble Aware Program provides free, confidential, and non-judgmental support for individuals, families, and community members who may be concerned about gambling and its effects.

The role of Community Coordinator offers an exciting opportunity to drive community engagement, education, and coordination for our program at the local level. Based in Southern NSW, you will play a pivotal role in facilitating and coordinating impactful activities.

As a Community Coordinator, you will have the chance to connect directly with the region both in person-traveling in an MA vehicle-and online. Your mission will be to provide essential education, raise awareness, and offer support to the local community.

In this dynamic position, you will also be instrumental in expanding the entry points to our services locally, ensuring that those experiencing gambling harm receive the support they need. If you are enthusiastic about fostering positive change and supporting your community, this role is perfect for you!

Your key responsibilities will be to:

  • Maintain a community engagement plan to raise awareness and educate community about gambling harm.
  • Create a range of community education workshops and activities.
  • Develop and/or conduct and facilitate group support and treatment programs.
  • Produce reports of community engagement and education outcomes
  • Respond to referrals and enquiries in a timely manner and according to service guidelines.

Requirements for Success:

  • Experience in community development and education.
  • Ability to respond to people with empathy, sensitivity and understanding.
  • Understanding of both the issues faced by community, those experiencing gambling harm and their families.
  • A passion for engaging with and mobilising the local communities.
  • A current NSW driver's licence

Before starting work with us, you will need to undertake a national police history check, qualifications, and referee checks, and have a clearance to work with children/vulnerable people.

Our innovative and inclusive culture will ensure you feel valued at Mission Australia as you help Australians in need and develop in your career.
