Advantage Feeders Farm compliments and supports Advantage Feeders core business through trailing and showcasing innovative ruminant production systems. The farm is located approximately 20km from Ballarat, running roughly 7000 ewes (and lambs) and an innovative 5000 capacity lamb feedlot. The objective of the farm is to push the boundaries of production through increasing pasture production, feed utilisation, and animal husbandry.
About the role
You will oversee and work with a team of capable existing employees to meet the daily responsibilities of farm operations. Your strong leadership, forward planning, and problem-solving skills will ensure efficient and effective farm processes. Guided by the Managing Director you will lead by example, undertaking practical livestock and machinery tasks while utilizing the latest livestock management technologies. You will apply sound mechanical knowledge to maintain machinery and ensure efficiency, and conduct daily toolbox meetings to allocate tasks appropriately to uphold OH&S standards ensuring a safe and productive working environment.
The key areas of responsibility for the Farm Operations Supervisor role include, but are not limited to:
· Undertake practical livestock and machinery operation tasks, in conjunction with the team (including driving a JCB telehandler, tractor and operating farm implements)
· Oversee task allocation for the team and proactively work to ensure farm productivity and operational efficiency.
· Prioritise livestock welfare for approximately 7000 ewes and lambs aligned to the overall livestock strategy set by the Managing Director.
· Support seasonal pasture improvement activities, including soil preparation and planting.
· Conduct routine inspections and preventative maintenance on all farming equipment.
· Oversee contractors for key farm activities, including shearing, spraying, seeding, and haymaking.
· Conducting toolbox meetings to promote safety, efficiency and team communication.
· Work collaboratively with the Managing Director to implement strategic decisions and ensure smooth farm operations.
· Apply financial awareness to understand operations costs and identify areas for cost efficiency.
· Test new equipment developed by Advantage Feeders providing meaningful feedback on improvement initiatives.
About you
Success as the Farm Operations Supervisor requires a can-do attitude, high levels of self-motivation and initiative, coupled with a hands-on leadership style and ability to take direction and think about the boarder picture. The successful candidate will have a familiarity with farm, livestock and machinery processes, possess strong interpersonal and leadership skills, and have great attention to detail and accuracy in all aspects of their work.
It will be essential that you have:
· Extensive on farm experience, with exposure to livestock and machinery processes.
· Have a full driver’s license, with the ability to tow a trailer confidently.
· Are physically fit and strong, capable of completing repetitive and demanding tasks.
· Have an appetite to work in varying weather conditions – the role is based outside in a cooler climate with high rainfall.
· Flexible availability to work outside regular hours when required, especially in extreme weather conditions or in response to urgent farm matters.
· Eligibility to work and live in Australia.
