Tandem Tutoring is looking for an experienced, compassionate Secondary Maths Tutor to join our growing team in Cheltenham, VIC.
We specialise in inclusive education for secondary students, particularly those with learning difficulties and neurodivergent profiles (such as dyslexia, dyscalculia, ADHD and autism). We believe in creating a safe, respectful space where every learner can thrive—and we’re looking for someone who shares that vision. Our sessions focus on empowering students through concrete strategies, including note-taking, organisation, and exam preparation.
What you’ll be doing:
Building students’ confidence, independence, and self-awareness as learners
Delivering individualised maths support to students in Years 7–12
Planning engaging, flexible lessons based on student needs and curriculum goals
Responding flexibly to students’ questions and interests in real time—curiosity and creative thinking encouraged!
Using hands-on materials (e.g., algebra tiles, 3D shapes) to teach complex concepts in accessible ways
Using neurodivergent-affirming, strength-based teaching strategies
Teaching core learning skills such as note-taking, how to revise effectively, and how to approach problem solving
Tracking student progress and collaborating with our team to support their growth
Building strong, positive relationships with students and families
What you’ll bring
A teaching degree (Primary or Secondary) – essential
Experience teaching math using concrete-materials
Confidence teaching skills like note-taking, study strategies, and test preparation
A deep understanding of inclusive education and learning difficulties
Familiarity with neurodivergent-affirming approaches (or willingness to learn)
Excellent communication, empathy, and adaptability
Strong knowledge of the secondary mathematics curriculum
Current Working with Children Check or VIT registration
Bonus points if you are:
Confident to teach Secondary English
Confident teaching algebra and area using concrete materials
Familiarity with assistive technologies or multisensory teaching approaches
Experience working online via Zoom to deliver high quality lessons - we use this when students can’t make it in to our centre for various reasons
