About the Opportunity

Biodiversity Australia is at an exciting juncture of rapid expansion, with a strong pipeline of growth projected over the next two years. To support this scale, we are seeking a strategic and hands-on Chief Financial Officer (CFO) to lead financial operations, drive performance, and establish a robust financial framework that supports our long-term success.

Reporting to the Director of Strategy and Leadership and working closely with the Senior Leadership Team, the CFO will oversee financial planning, compliance, reporting, and cash flow management while leading the review, redesign, and integration of financial systems to create a scalable and high-performing financial structure.

This is a transformational leadership opportunity for an experienced CFO who thrives on building and improving financial processes, developing efficient reporting and governance frameworks, and implementing systems that drive sustainable business growth at scale.

Key Responsibilities

Strategic Financial Leadership

Develop and execute financial strategies that align with the company’s growth trajectory and long-term objectives.

Provide strategic financial insights to the Business Leaders and Senior Leadership Team, ensuring strong governance and financial health.

Lead budgeting, forecasting, and financial modelling to support expansion and investment decisions.

Identify opportunities for cost efficiencies and financial optimisation while maintaining operational excellence.

Financial System Development & Process Improvement

Review, redesign, and integrate financial systems and processes to support rapid business expansion.

Implement scalable financial reporting and control mechanisms that provide clear visibility into company performance.

Overhaul and enhance financial data integrity, compliance, and governance frameworks to ensure sustainable growth.

Introduce automation and technology-driven solutions to improve efficiency, accuracy, and decision-making.

Operational Finance & Compliance

Oversee financial operations, ensuring strong cash flow management, reporting accuracy, and compliance with accounting standards.

Lead tax planning, risk management, and financial audits to mitigate financial risks and uphold regulatory compliance.

Manage relationships with banks, investors, and financial institutions, supporting capital structuring and funding strategies.

Ensure financial due diligence in contracts, partnerships, and business transactions.

Leadership & Team Development

Build and mentor a high-performing finance team, ensuring strong leadership, training, and professional development.

Foster a culture of accountability, efficiency, and innovation in financial operations.

Provide commercial and financial leadership across departments, ensuring alignment of financial strategy with business goals.

About You

You are an experienced CFO or senior financial leader with a proven track record in financial system transformation, scalability, and performance-driven leadership. You have experience working in fast-growing businesses, where you’ve built and implemented financial structures that support significant expansion.

Key Skills & Experience:

CPA/CA qualified with extensive experience in financial leadership roles.

Demonstrated expertise in financial systems redesign, process automation, and scalable financial infrastructure development.

Strong commercial acumen with the ability to develop financial strategies for business growth.

Proven experience in financial planning, forecasting, reporting, and risk management.

Experience leading finance transformation projects, including ERP implementation, system integrations, and automation.

Ability to balance hands-on financial management with high-level strategic leadership.

Strong stakeholder management skills, including board-level reporting, investor relations, and funding strategy.
