About the role
The purpose of this position is to engage, guide, support and provide mentoring to our Students, Trainees and their employers. to achieve long-term career successes in Aboriginal Communities, building capacity in the Aboriginal health and wellbeing workforce. VACCHO's model of Aboriginal Student Mentors providing wrap around holistic support is a key contributor to successful student outcomes.
On a day-to-day basis, this will include undertaking Student/Trainee sign-ups, site visits, workplace inspections and case management; visiting and monitoring trainees and their employers; promoting VACCHO Registered Training Organisation (RTO) and the programs offered.
As you will be working with multiple stakeholders at various levels, from individuals to executives, you must have the energy, enthusiasm and to effectively engage with diverse groups, including both informally and professional settings with a focus of supporting your community.

Essential skills/experiences
To be successful in this role, you will be a competent and confident Student Mentor who is capable of working with Aboriginal students looking to take the next stage in their career. You will have a passion for supporting students through their studies.
We are looking for someone with strong inter-personal and relationship management skills. You will be highly adaptable and confident about providing advice and support.
Desirable
Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander peoples are strongly encouraged to apply as your cultural and lived experiences are central to the work we do. This is an identified role.

About Victorian Aboriginal Community Controlled Health
The Victorian Aboriginal Community Controlled Health Organisation (VACCHO) was established in 1996. VACCHO is the peak Aboriginal health body representing 100% of Aboriginal Community Controlled Health Organisations (ACCHOs) in Victoria. The role of VACCHO is to build the capacity of its Membership and to advocate for issues on their behalf.
Capacity is built amongst Members through strengthening support networks, increasing workforce development opportunities and through leadership on particular health areas. Advocacy is carried out with a range of private, community and government agencies, at state and national levels, on all issues related to Aboriginal health.
