About the Role

An exciting opportunity has become available for a Design Engineer. The role will:

• Work with the Senior Engineering Technical Officer – Design to prepare designs and CAD drawings in line with the City’s program of works.
• Liaise with public utilities and authorities for the coordination of works, relocations and or protection of services.
• Assist the Senior Design Engineer with input of the preparation of the infrastructure 10-year Capital Works Program.
• Able to work on multi-disciplinary, technically challenging projects and draw them in AutoCAD.
• Work with the City’s other business units to ensure good cross team collaboration with engineering projects.
• Assist in the preparation of high-level cost estimates for the City’s Capital works as per the agreed work program.
• Train and Mentor junior members of the team.

What are we looking for?

To be successful in this role you will need:

• Developed information technology skills encompassing the ability to use Microsoft Office and AutoCAD at an advanced level.
• Good understanding of Australian Standards, Austroads Standards, Main Roads Western Australia Design Standards and approval process.
• Demonstrated Civil Engineering design knowledge and experience.
• Problem solving and analytical skills.
• Developed communication skills to enable the effective provision of advice to staff, design consultants and contractors.
• Minimum of 3 years industry experience.
• Local government experience is desirable

Qualifications and/or Training

• Tertiary Qualification in Civil Engineering
• Advance drafting skills using CAD system and excellent understanding of design standards in relation to Council projects
• Current Western Australian C Class Driver’s Licence.
• Valid Construction awareness Training (White Card).
