Your role
The Senior Project Officer works in the Inclusive Practice unit (Office of the Senior Practitioner) to promote, support and facilitate inclusive practice by Department of Communities & Justice (DCJ) caseworkers. The unit promotes the delivery of high-quality support services to culturally and linguistically diverse clients, clients with disability, and LGBTQIA+ clients who are in contact with the child protection system.
What you'll do
As part of the Engagement and Family Support (EFS) team in Inclusive Practice, you will work closely with DCJ caseworkers to support children and young people with disability, and parents with disability, who are in contact with the child protection system. The primary role of EFS is to work collaboratively with caseworkers and the National Disability Insurance Agency (NDIA) to:
- Keep children and young people at home with their families - this includes children and young with disability, and parents with disability who have children, and
- Ensure that DCJ clients receive the disability supports they need through the National Disability Insurance Scheme (NDIS) so that they can thrive.
This exciting temporary seven-month role (from late May to late December 2025) involves working as part of a small team to support and build the capacity of caseworkers in multiple DCJ districts to
- Navigate the NDIS on behalf of clients
- Ensure NDIS plans meet individual's disability support needs
- Build knowledge and understanding of supporting clients and parents with disability including access to mainstream supports
- Escalate and resolve issues of concern relating to the NDIS interface.
What we're looking for
- Tertiary qualifications in a related field and /or equivalent experience
- Knowledge of (or capacity to learn), and understand the NDIS
- A strong commitment to customer service with demonstrated capability in cross-agency collaboration and stakeholder management
- The ability to identify emerging issues and recommend solutions to resolve problems and mitigate risks
- Experience in managing the expectations of clients, advocates, mainstream agencies and other stakeholders where there may be competing priorities.
