Our Temporary Supported Accommodation Services are provided by the Youth Outreach support tseam. These Specialist Homelessness Services are funded by the Department of Housing. Our 24/7 accommodation assists young people 16-19 years who are homeless or at risk of homelessness to gain, maintain and sustain a tenancy. Our core business is accommodation assistance and the development of independent living skills for a successful tenancy.
About the role
We are building a multidisciplinary team of vibrant Youth Workers and expanding our pool of casual team members in 24/7 accommodation. We recognise that Community Mental Health Workers have a relevant and specialised set of skills that would meet the contemporary needs of young people accessing our services. If you have Community Mental Health experience we would love to hear from you!
Our Youth Workers are experienced in supporting young people who have been displaced from housing. Young people may present with symptoms of trauma and require a high level of assistance to address mental health, drug and alcohol and/or behavioural concerns that may impact their accommodation.
The purpose of this role is to provide a safe and supportive environment, to assist young people to develop independent living skills, develop plans to support goals and help the young person re-engage in employment, education and their community. Candidates who have experience working with young people in residential settings and with a mental health support background will be highly regarded.
Responsibilities:
Maintain a safe and supportive environment by promoting the importance of contributing to a shared living arrangement.
Maintain house routines and support to establish individual routines.
Strong communication and engagement skills.
Support young people to achieve goals identified in their case plan and to participate in the Living Together Program (living skills for a successful tenancy).
Support to understand the responsibilities of a tenancy.
Assist young people to connect with their community and other services to meet case plan goals by making appropriate referrals.
Contribute to continual improvement and service safety.
Intermediate computer literacy and the ability to move between multiple digital platforms for case notes, emails and reporting.
We are looking for candidates who have the flexibility to provide shift coverage on short notice as well as periods of planned leave. A combination of sleepover, day and weekend shifts will be available on a 24/7 roster.
Employment Requirements
Tertiary qualifications in Community Services and/or relevant discipline.
Experience in a 24/7 Residential environment is essential.
