About the Role
As a Health, Safety & Wellbeing Officer, you will play a hands-on role in supporting Council’s health, safety, and wellbeing objectives. Working closely with the Coordinator and Business Partners, you will help implement safety initiatives, support compliance efforts, and contribute to a positive workplace culture.
What You’ll Do
- Provide frontline support on workplace safety, wellbeing, and injury management matters.
- Conduct workplace inspections, audits, and risk assessments.
- Assist with incident investigations, reporting, and corrective actions.
- Support safety training, toolbox talks, and wellbeing programs.
- Help ensure Council meets its OHS and child safety obligations.
What You’ll Bring
- A qualification in Occupational Health and Safety, Wellbeing, or a related field.
- Experience in an OHS, safety, or wellbeing role, ideally in a local government or similar environment.
- Strong communication and problem-solving skills.
- A proactive and collaborative approach to workplace safety.
- The ability to engage with employees and promote a positive safety culture.

About Hobsons Bay City Council
Hobsons Bay City Council operates the Hobsons Bay Visitor Information Centre, a Level 2 accredited centre that is located at Commonwealth Reserve in Williamstown, right where the ferries come in. The centre is staffed by trained volunteers and staff who are passionate about tourism in the west, and our local area, and are a great resource to find out about what is happening in Melbourne and throughout Victoria.
