MATES WA is an independent charity that provides mental health and suicide prevention services to workers in the building and construction, and mining industries.

The MATES program includes general awareness and intervention skills training for construction workers, which increases the likelihood of people who are at risk of suicide being connected to help. The program also provides support for those identified as needing help through the MATES 24/7 helpline, and specialist Case Managers who provide professional suicide intervention and referral support to workers and their direct family members.

THE ROLE
This is a critical role within the MATES organisation. MATES Case Managers work to provide suicide interventions (utilising the ASIST model), referral and advocacy support for workers and families in the construction and mining industries. Ensuring the quality and consistency of service delivery remains high priority.

This role is a fixed term contract until 1st July, 2026 with possibility of extension for the right person.

The role responsibilities include:

Client intake and therapeutic assessment

Short term Case Management focusing on support plan development and external referrals.

Applying solution focused, person centred and trauma informed approaches to client support

Ensuring Policies and Procedures are adhered to across the CM service.

Bi-annual reporting

Representing the organisation at industry events

Undertake ASIST (Suicide Interventions) as required (training will be provided)

Case noting and data management.

Delivering high quality MATES training

THE PERSON
The successful candidate will have:

Tertiary education in Psychology, Social Work, Counselling (or similar) and/or significant demonstrated experience working as a Case Manager or similar.

Understanding of the importance of self-care practices.

Understanding of the issues impacting people from the building and construction industry and their families.

Be willing to travel to deliver trainings to regional and remote sites as required.

Ability to work additional hours as required.

Strong inter-personal skills, including ability to communicate with a wide range of people.

A clear understanding of the MATES program.

Experience in building trusted and valued relationships with team members, partners and other stakeholders.

Strong organisational and time management skills, including ability to prioritise responsibilities and multi task.

Good proficiency in common IT software, including Word and Powerpoint.

A current drivers license, WWC clearance and Police clearance is essential.
