Our team is growing – so we are on the lookout for a veterinary nurse to join us! We are a busy, well established small animal veterinary hospital in Sydney’s Inner West – with a strong patient focus. We have long believed that if we take care of our patients, everything else takes care of itself.

About the role:

This role can be adapted to suit our ideal candidate. Are you a junior nurse looking to take a few steps up in your career? Are you already experienced but want to try something different – in a role that will challenge your skills? Or have you recently qualified, or soon to qualify, and are looking for your first role within the industry?

We all know there are some great parts about veterinary nursing (placing IV’s, being involved with challenging anaesthetics, seeing unwell patients go home well) and some less-great parts (“someone has done something in this room I can smell it… oh, there it is… and he has walked through it…”, watching families having to say goodbye to their beloved pet, the difficult client at reception) – but by far and away this role is about having a positive impact on the lives of your patients.

You are our eyes and ears – and as a result we rely heavily on you to improve outcomes for our patients. Our vets actively listen to nurses – never discounting what you have to say. There is no “us-vs-them” attitude at Concord Veterinary Hospital – because after all, who are the ones spending the most time with our patients? Who are the ones who pick up that every time we offer Fluffy some chicken, she lip smacks and turns her head? Who notices that little bit of extra blood in a patient’s surgical recovery cage? Who notices the MAP has been dropping steadily for the last 10 minutes of anaesthesia?

The veterinary nursing role at Concord Veterinary Hospital is less about the “role”, and more about the goal of improving the welfare of all our patients. Attitude always trumps aptitude – and this role can be tailored if the candidate-to-clinic is a good match.

About you:

You care about your patients. You are committed to providing the best veterinary nursing care you can and improving patient outcomes. You love seeing patients go home after a big procedure or prolonged hospital stay. You like getting to know clients and seeing how pet ownership enriches their lives.

You may be experienced or freshly qualified or soon to be qualified. You can work 3 or more shifts per week (full-time or permanent part-time). You have a positive can-do attitude and a willingness to learn. You want to be part of a happy team, feel supported by the practice partners, all for the same goal of helping our patients. You have a high emotional intelligence, would like a drama-free workplace, and have an excellent work ethic.

About the hospital:

We punch well above our weight for a medium size practice, and we have never rested on our heels. Some examples of our continuing efforts to strive to do better include being at the forefront of FIP treatment worldwide, consistently upgrading equipment to assist us better our skills, and stepping out of our comfort zone with surgical cases when the opportunity presents itself. We have a longstanding professional relationship with The Cat Protection Society of NSW and this forms part of our day-to-day work – enabling us to add to our already varied and interesting caseload.

We have all the usual toys: in-house IDEXX suite, IM3 dental machines with dental radiology, recently renovated surgical suite, digital x-ray (DR), new ultrasound machine, Ligasure system, ETCO2, transfusion equipment, Tonovet and more.

And the obligatory carrots: there are no rostered weekends and no after hours; the clinic closes at 6pm. Salary is above award, initially commensurate with experience, and reviewed regularly.

If this sounds like you – please send your CV and cover letter to [email protected] Attn: Dr Rebecca Brady.
