The Wellness and Social Support Officer role with Carers WA is a full-time, fixed-term contract until 30 June 2026. The position attracts a salary of $83,850 p.a., plus super, salary packaging, 5 weeks annual leave (with 17.5% leave loading) and 2 wellness days per annum.

Carers WA is the peak body representing the needs and interests of carers in Western Australia and is part of a national network of Carers Associations providing a range of support services, supporting Carers across Western Australia. Carers provide unpaid care and support to family members and friends who have disability, mental health challenges, a chronic condition, terminal illness, an alcohol or other drug issue or who are frail aged.

Position Description:
The Wellness and Social Support Officer role is required to oversee and grow the Carers WA Social Support Program, with the aim of reducing social isolation and increasing social interaction for carers.
The program encompasses social support groups and wellness events designed to introduce carers to supportive peer and social networks within their own local area or community, thereby improving their emotional and physical health and empowering them to be pro-active in their caring role. This role would continue to deliver on these areas of program support and develop new opportunities for growth state-wide.
The Social Support program works in partnership with other Carers WA State and Federally funded programs and acts as a referral and entry point to other internal support services. Working in a close-knit supportive team, this role plays an integral part in ensuring carers are supported and have access to appropriate and timely services.
Carers WA promotes a workplace free of physical and psychological harm, however, acknowledges that some roles and inherent actions of our business mean there may be exposure to traumatic narratives. In these instances, and where possible, Carers WA will mitigate the impact of this exposure. Typical stressors associated with this role may include exposure to traumatic narratives and difficult situations.
Essential Selection Criteria:
- Minimum of 3 years’ experience working in the community services sector.
- Experience in supervising staff and/or volunteers.
- Project skills and experience (including project planning and delivery).
- High level of interpersonal and communication, both written and verbal.
- Skills in public speaking at a variety of events, including expos and workshops.
- Intermediate level competency using computer software including Microsoft Office Suite, and/or customised client databases, as well as virtual communication modes (phone, skype, Zoom).
- Ability to multi-task and prioritise with highly developed time management skills.
- Ability to work independently and with minimal supervision.
- Current C class drivers’ licence, National Police Clearance issued within the last 3 months (to be provided upon employment) and current Working with Children Check.
